Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Time picker issues on iPhone / Android

In my app, I have a date time field.

Control type is Text Box with data type of Date.

    HTML5 = datetime

    Date/Time picker is enabled.

Date picker works fine on all platforms.

Time picker works on desktop, but on mobile phones its not really usable.

On Android, in order to select the hour or minute, I have to press and hold on my selection for a second until it shows that the option I want is highlighted. If I do that, it works. But, if I just quickly tap the option I want, it just closes the hour/minute drop down without changing the value.

On iPhone, it's worse. No matter what I do, I can't select the hour or the minute. Any sort of tap or tap & hold gesture just closes the drop down without updating the time. The only way to change the time is to enter it via the virtual keyboard.

What can I do to fix this? Or better, what's the best way to support entering datetime & time fields on mobile devices?

    -----------

One other question, if I want to make a time-only field, what SQL Server datatype should I use to store the value? When I tried time(7), I got an error when I tried to sync the list data back to the server. Something about not finding the data I was looking for, if I remember correct

I cannot remember exactly what my settings are or if I actually changed anything, but for me and the time picker area, I simply use my bluetooth keyboard once I am in the field itself, I use the arrow key to get to the right and hit backspace to clear the field then enter the number then hit the tab to move to the minutes.
Definitely a bit of a strain working with it, and not sure what can be done - other than possibly making the size of it easier to click into.
I do not think there is a "perfect" solution to the time picker thing and perhaps Alpha will be able to take a look at the control itself to see what causes the issue and if it can be resolved on their end or ours. Unless someone chimes in here to say they know a better answer I would suggest submitting a "bug" because its bugging us all...lol
    The data question:
I know in MySQL its just "TIME"

      That's unfortunate.

What about enabling the native HTML5 "datetime" type support? In general, iOS will use a built-in datetime picker for input controls marked with the "datetime" type, but it doesn't work in the AA app for some reason. It seems that something in the HTML that Alpha Anywhere is emitting is precluding it from working. Is there any way to make that work?

Re: Time picker issues on iPhone / Android

I've done some testing. Native support for Date fields and Time fields both work using the HTML5 type attributes. However, datetime fields from Alpha Anywhere always seem to render as regular text boxes, no matter what settings I try. When I load the following page in iOS, the datetime control renders as a native datetime picker, so I know it's supported. Has anyone else gotten this to work? I could just make the date and time fields separate fields and just go that route, but a single datetime field with native picker support would be better.

Also, I've confirmed that date, time, and datetime controls all work on android. It's just iOS that datetime native support doesn't work for. These are the two platforms we're targeting, so it's important that it works on iOS, too. Anyone know why native datetime isn't working on iOS?

Hi, did anyone come up with an elegant solution to this?
I'm trying to use a time picker on an Android device, not only do i get all the symptoms above it also makes the screen jump around making it effective unusable on the device.
If you failed (like I am) what did you do as alternative?
(Date pickers seem to work fine)
            Any help appreciated

Have you looked into the FORM VIEW control?
