Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Taking Video With Mobile App

I want to build a mobile app that allows you to take a video with an iPhone or Android device and have that video upload automatically to a user profile for retrieval. How would I go about doing this? Also, I am still on version 11, what version do I need to upgrade to? I guess I would need to be able to store the videos in S3 on AWS, so I guess I would need the enterprise version? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

    Hello Steven,

We have been working on adding audio and video capture to Alpha Anywhere. These features are currently available as part of the mobile optimized forms features currently in beta development. If you want to try out these features, you can join the beta program. You must, however, be a current user of Alpha Anywhere, so accessing these features will require upgrading to Alpha Anywhere. I would suggest contacting the sales department for more information on the specific deployment package you need.

Visit https://www.alphasoftware.com/tablet/beta/ for more information about the mobile optimized forms beta.

Thanks for replying, when do you think this will be out of beta and ready for production?

Re: Taking Video With Mobile App

I've been using the integrated video capture for phonegap in the beta for a few months now and I would say it is working great. Also, with the current live version, in direct mobile web (no phonegap), the regular file upload action javascript gives the user the option to take a video for upload. I do not know if that option appears and works inside phonegap. I suspect not as phonegap restricts file and device (camera) access. I'm using the Beta video capture. Since you mentioned S3, I do believe there is a small bug and you may have to republish the storage connection string in the publishing profile not just in project properties. This may have been fixed.

Thanks Eric, which version of Alpha Anywhere are you using, it seems that you need enterprise version if you store with S3?

I am using the version just before the last update. I believe this is the last one before they switched to different levels of license.

How are you storing your videos? Just in the file system on local servers? Was thinking about storing the videos in S3 since my app in running on AWS.

Using S3, which is awesome. Once I figured out the slight bug of needing to republish storage string in publishing profile, it was very easy.

Have to agree, since video was introduced, using the most recent pre-release - you can do all the things in your original thread.
