Buttonlist populated with Data series from a Javascript function

Yeah, more javascript fun....

Has anyone succeeded at populating a ButtonList from a Data series, and with that Data series populated by a javascript function?

My data series has two Subseries names:

Name,Number

The function for now is simple and hard-coded, based on one of the simple models in the Data series manager:

function data_ModuleChoices() {
  var arr = [];
    arr.push({Name: 'Chemical Readings', Number: '2'});
    arr.push({Name: 'Cleanliness', Number: '13'});
    arr.push({Name: 'Overall Guard', Number: '16'});
    return arr;
}

And of course I've set the ButtonList to use that data series. But no joy - just empty space where I would like some buttons.

Seeing Selwyn's video on this I thought that maybe I need to do something to call the function.

I tried simply calling on the UX onInitializeComplete, as this:

data_ModuleChoices();

and this:

var mObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('Modchoices');   // this is the ButtonList control
mObj.refresh();

But, no buttons yet.

I haven't tried this yet, but for an alternative, I do use check boxes and radio buttons with the "render as a button list" option checked. This makes it REALLY easy to make them dynamic and you get something that's almost the same aesthetically as a button list.

I like that too and may change direction here, but do have a couple customer-driven reasons to want to make the ButtonList work this way. I'm just surprised that with my simple experiment here that it didn't work and I can't figure out why.

I had just a few minutes to play with this and the only thing I can tell you so far is that your exact function works as a data series for a chart. So, maybe that can get you going and maybe this is just a bug?

Also:

var mObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('Modchoices');   // this is the ButtonList control
mObj.refresh();

Works for a chart but gives an error (when running it from a button) when I try to refresh a button list with it.

I'm not sure the ButtonList control has a refresh() method. There's no surprise that the chart does. But I also don't know so hesitate to file as bug. This is pretty simple though and I would kind of expect that you could build a UX with the ButtonList fed from a data series without having to even call a refresh().
