Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5_mergeDataIntoTemplate with SQL ResultSet yields blank HTML

    HTML is correct. ResultSet is correct.

    a5_mergeDataIntoTemplate with a SQL ResultSet yields no errors but a blank HTML merge.

    If I pick the data out of the same ResultSet and build an XBasic property array, a5_mergeDataIntoTemplate works and I get my HTML.

    So, a5_mergeDataIntoTemplatedoesn't work with my ResultSet, but works with a property array built from data extracted from the ResultSet?

    I have more columns in the ResultSet than I am using in the HTML, but that should not matter.

    V12.3, build 2999 Addins: 4519

    I have about 40-50 columns to build into a property array and like the idea of using the ResultSet and wanted to avoid future maintenance on a property array.

    may be silly question:
    did you define the template first?

      A5_Merge.jpg

      fax_html is correct.
      fax_html2 is blank.

      merge_results show no errors for either.

      Customer_Signature is INK text. Other fields are common.

        since I do not see the template definition in your last post I am posting the way I have done to clarify my answer

        Code:
        dim template as c
        template = <<%html%
        <html>
        <head>
        <title></title>
        </head>
        <body>
        <table>
        <thead>
        <th>Last Name</th><th>First Name</th><th>Address</th><th>City</th><th>State></th><th>Zipcode</th>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
        <tr>
        <td>{ds.data("firstname")}</td><td>{ds.data("lastname")}</td><td>{ds.data("address")}</td><td>{ds.data("city")</td><td>{ds.data("State")}</td><td>{ds.data("zipcode")}</td>
        </tr>
        </tbody>
        </table>
        </body>
        </html>
        %html%
        dim cn as sql::Connection
        dim result as l = .f.
        result = cn.Open("::Name::local_mySql")
        if result then
        	dim sqlSelect as c
        	sqlSelect = "SELECT * FROM customer"
        	result = cn.Execute(sqlSelect)
        	if result then
        		dim rs as sql::ResultSet
        		rs = cn.ResultSet
        		dim html as c
        		html = a5_mergedataintotemplate(template, rs)
        	end if
        	showvar(html)
        	cn.close()
        end if

        and the result is

        Code:
        <html>
        <head>
        <title></title>
        </head>

        <tr>
        <td>govindan</td><td>gg3</td><td></td><td>{ds.data("city")</td><td></td><td></td>
        </tr>
        </table>
        </body>
        </html>
        while this is good, it needs to broken into three parts i will post those three parts in a minute.

          But you can see that I am building the XBasic dset array from the results_set using the same names.

          The same html template is being used for both.

          I have it all working using the intermediate dset array.

          I didn't bother showing the messy template and all its CSS.

            okay then,
            the way i do and it works is not to declare a pointer variable like dset[] and set the result_set data to it than
            just call the ds pointer. even without declaring it
            like
            {ds.data("Manifest")} like that

            hope it makes sense.

              Re: a5_mergeDataIntoTemplate with SQL ResultSet yields blank HTML

              I did both.

              All of the HTML is coded as you showed, {ds.data("Manifest")} for each field.

              In the first invocation of A5_merge ds is the dset.
              In the second invocation, ds is the results_set.

              Yeah, it has me confused, too.
