Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha V12 WAS + SSL Stability Issue?

    Hi Everyone,
We were previously running some production systems in a V11 environment and had issues with our monitoring server reporting downtime.
These errors seemed SSL related. We recently finished a migration to V12 after hearing that it fixes some stability / SSL issues.

We are still receiving downtime from our monitoring software:
Failed to establish secure connection [Step 0] Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. [Step 1] Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. [Step 2] Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. [Step 3] Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. [Step 4] Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused.

The server is configured with SSL and the SSL Cert / Chain are correct and recognized as per tests on ssllabs.com

In the Alpha Error Log for the server I see the following:
[Fri Apr 15 08:24:12 2016] [info] Too many spare threads (9), stopping 1
[Fri Apr 15 08:24:14 2016] [info] Not enough spare threads (0), starting 2

Has anyone encountered these sorts of issues? Any input / info would be greatly appreciated as these are high-usage production environments and need to ensure as close to 100% uptime as possible.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Back in V11, I asked Lenny about this, he said these are not errors. These are normal. So, I asked if the error reporting could be made optional for "normal" errors, and he said that would be in the next version, but I don't see it.

Re: Alpha V12 WAS + SSL Stability Issue?

FYI for anyone struggling with SSL stability issues - we have had a great deal of success using IIS as a proxy to the standalone Alpha WAS.
In this fashion we have IIS handling the SSL negotiation and it sits as a middle man between the end user and the WAS. So request path looks like: end user->IIS->WAS.

Our server "crashes" / downtime has been non-existent since.

I used Abyss X2 myself and it was simple and free, but in the end I just didn't need it as the Alpha webserver is working fine and as expected.

Re: Alpha V12 WAS + SSL Stability Issue?

Good to know - Were you guys running HTTPS or HTTP? We have never really noticed any issue with HTTP. The intermittent crashing seems to be in the SSL implementations only.
So in the above implementation essentially we run ALPHA WAS on HTTP (non SSL) and let IIS handle all the SSL business
