Get original (old) value from control in javascript

In a UX say I change the value of a textbox from "A" to "B". I can easily get the latest (new) value with the getValue() method in that textbox's onChange event. Is there a method to get the original value?

try this and see if it works:
on the onFocus event for the control add an inlineJavascript

oldValue = {dialog.object}.getValue('YOUR CONTROL NAME');

then on the onChange event

var newValue = {dialog.object}.getValue('YOUR CONTROL NAME');
alert(oldValue);
alert(newValue);

please note that oldValue does not have the var making that automatically a global variable.

You can also get the old value from the "e" object during an ajax callback as well. It's something like "oldDataSubmitted" or "dataSubmittedOld". I can't recall exactly. Anyway, sometimes it's handy for me to compare the old to the new in the after validate event.which is where I usually use that.

no mic yet on this computer I tabbed around to get back and reverted to the old value by click of button.
if you need to capture anything else proper place to capture will be onRenderComplete event to capture any value to the javascript global namespace.

I didn't know if he was truly looking for a client-side or server-side solution. So I figured why not give both.

I know this has been answered before, but you don't have to store any value as Alpha Anywhere already does that as long as you don't submit the form.

{dialog.object}.originalValues[0]['YOUR CONTROL NAME HERE']

You can also set the original values in code by using the following code.

for(var object in {dialog.object}.originalValues[0])
	{
		{dialog.object}.originalValues[0][object] = {dialog.object}.getValue(object);
	}

How did you find that?? I ask because your method works great for a textbox but I get undefined for a drop down. Maybe there is a different method for a dropdown?
