Test if a list's detail view is dirty - How?

Like the title says .... I want to test whether a list's detail view is dirty. The list detail view genie generates buttons with an enable expression that includes dialog.listDetailView.ADD_DX_LIST.isDirty. The method I need must be close to that.

Resolved ...found the method.

_dvIsDirty

var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('My_List');

if (lObj._dvIsDirty == true){
	alert('Dirty List!');
} else if (lObj._dvIsDirty == false){
	alert('Not Dirty');
}

Man, what a game of cat and mouse this can be.. where did you find this answer (work great) - but there is absolutely no content in the Help System other than the the placeholder 'here' for the List Detail View on save events etc. - Very frustrating.

A forum search for list dirty shows a couple of valid posts.

_dvIsDirty is a property of the List object.

And in the Help? -no such thing - even if you know it the response is - No Results Found, I'm really interested in where Mike found the reference. While you're there canUpdateList is an event in the lists detail View and has a definition,

'Fires when the user tries to update the List with edits that have been made to the List Detail View. If function returns false, action is cancelled. The data object is passed in as a member of the e object. If you set properties in e.data, you can override the values that the user entered.'

I cannot for the life of me get a working syntax on over riding the values, David can you assist me on this please - again there is not documentation for this.

Truth be told I had to sacrifice a goat and make an offering to the java script god....



Actually, I don't recall the specific circumstances. I have found methods before by inspecting the control in Chrome's developer tools.

Does this help at all for over riding values? I just got to working on the Detail View client-side events yesterday, so it is useful to know what is helpful.

Has anyone found a similar method for checking if the list is dirty (ie what if a user has made edits to the list and saved them but they haven't been synced).

I've tried lObj._isDirty, lObj.isDirty, lObj.IsDirty, lObj._IsDirty but all returned as undefined.

You could use these...

var dirtyLists = {dialog.Object}._getDirtyLists();  //returns an array of List names which are dirty
var areListsDirty = {dialog.Object}._hasDirtyLists(); // returns true or false for the UX

var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
var listDirty = lObj.listIsDirty(); //returns true or false if the List is dirty
