Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Getting errors after applying new update

Hi, can anyone help with this? I updated last Thursday to the latest version and now I get the two errors below on a tabbed UI builder page. It seems to have something to do with the security groups because if I turn them off, my tree shows up and no error. If I turn the security back on none of the tree shows up even using the correct credentials and I get the two errors.

    First error:

    error 1.png

    Second error:

    error 2.png

    Thanks!

Just an additional bit of information. I restored the A5DATA folder and the A5Webroot folder to almost a month ago, and this did not fix the problem.

I put the data back to the date it should be, then rolled the a5V12 folder back to before yesterdays update. This fixed the problem but I now do not have the update.

    Can someone please address this?

    Thanks

Do you mean to post this in a v12 forum? This is v11 app server forum.

Re: Getting errors after applying new update

I've seen and encountered both of those errors in the past.. Been a while since I've seen them.

At what point do you experience these errors? Are they one right after another? Always the same sequence? Are you opening any components or reports or inside of any components/reports when these errors occur? Elaborate on exactly what you are doing in order to assist finding the root cause..

Do the errors go away for a while (more than 15-20 minutes) after rebooting the IDE? The more information you can give, the more likely someone is going to be able to assist..

Re: Getting errors after applying new update

Ok I think I have found and fix whats causing the errors but the security is still not working when the upgrade is applied.
Here's what I hope is a better description of what I'm doing and what's happening.

I have a tabbed UI using Tree Controls, branches and Tabbed UI buttons opening grids with security groups assigned. (Image One & Two)
              Image One.png
              Image Two.png

When I do a live preview, it asks what group I want to login as and I choose one that I know has permission for this page. (Image Three)
              Image Three.png

What is supposed to happen and what happened up until the patch upgrade is that the tabbed UI page opens. I can see an use the tabs in the panel with no problems. Security worked fine. (Image 4)
              Image Four.png

That's what its supposed to do and does without the upgrade.

After I apply the upgraded patch, I did the exact same procedure as above (Images One, Two and Three) but the tabs do not show up in the panel. If I remove the security settings on the tabs, the the tabs will show up. So something in the update is screwing up the security settings is all I can figure. (Image Five)
              Image Five.png

              This result is wrong.

Another thing that I tried was to create a blank tabbed UI page. Add the Tree Control, branch and a grid. I ran it and it ran fine. I then applied security settings to the test UI and the tabs no longer show up.
If I remove the security, it works.

I'm wondering if you are having the same issue I was having months ago... In Web Security, go to Customize Options and look for the options:

"Enable component security for 'virtual pages'" and "Enforce security at component level for AJAX components"..

                Are these checked or unchecked?

"Enable component security for 'virtual pages'" is uncheck and the second one does not show up till the first is checked. I checked them both off to test it but that seem to do nothing for the problem. I then tried just having the "Enable component security for 'virtual pages'" checked off but unfortunately that didn't change things.

I really appreciate the suggestion though. If you can think of anything else I can try, please let me know.

I have both options checked and haven't had that issue since. Will see if I can reproduce once again and revert back if I find something.

I experienced a similar problem with the new update and ended up having to re-save and re-publish the offending components - after I had checked the security on their Action buttons.

If both are checked, what do you have component security set too? Mine are defaulted as "always denied" so when I tried this, I set them to "Always allowed". That did not help either. My security is not set on a AJAX component level anyway.

This problem was submitted as an error in the software. After a few days, they did determine that there is a problem with the "Live Preview" and security settings. I was told it would be fixed at the next update.
