How to filter a second list

I have 3 panels with 3 different lists. The second list is filtered using an argument from the first list. Now I need to filter the third list using the first list, but the returned field from that first list is not the one needed for this third list. How can I accomplish this, I was thinking using variables, but I have no Idea how to set them. Anyone can guide me? The field needed from the first list to be used to filter the third one is named Id_Subtopic. When I select the record from the first list I need to generate that variable, or maybe another way to accomplish that?

To do this is quite easy, you just need to get the value from list 1 that you want to filter list 3 by right?

You could do this using the {dialog.object}._filterList method which performs a server-side query to filter the data.. Or on the client side using the <listObject>.setFilter method.. Read up on these methods to decide which one best suits your needs.

var lstVal = {dialog.object}.getValue('list::YourListIDHere::Id_Subtopic') in order the value of the column you want.

Whipped this up real quick.. Try this in your list 1 onClick and see if it has the effect you're looking for..

var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('list2');
var lObj2 = {dialog.object}.getControl('list3');

Because in the first list I just need to tap over the record, I put it on the OnSelect part of the list, I am at least getting something on the panel, but not the correct filtered list, I'm getting other subtopics as well.

Somehow, some other subtopics are showing up from time to time, is it possible to force an exact match in that code?

The subtopics are filtered based on integer value, in this case, 'Id_Subtopic'.. I'm assuming this is an integer.

I also assumed that you had a common field between list 1, list 2, and list 3.. Like an ID integer column that relates the data in some way.. If you need more complex filtering, then I will need to know a bit more about the data itself that you are trying to filter.

But the way I tested this was creating 3 lists as you described:

List 1 (Static):

If you are filtering by Id_Subtopic and this is an integer column and you have multiple rows in list 2 and list 3 that match the integer value of the column in the row you've selected, then it should be showing multiple subtopics where those integer values are equal to each other. Again, if you need a more complex filter, I need to know more about the data itself. :)

I have checked everything, I have the field Id_Subtopic in both lists (1 and 3) list2 is filtered using an argument (field CourseNumber) and that list is filtering correctly. But list3 is working with some suptopics, for example, there is a subtopic called Comparative Religion, with Id_Suptopic = 34, that one is filtering correctly, but I have another Subtopic called Business, with Id_Subtopic = 78, and the list3 is showing me all courses, including all other topics. I have checked the fields in the tables and they are declared as numeric, same length (2). I really don't know what is happening, why it is working with some subtopics and not with all.

Pretty odd. And you are sure that you have common fields between list 1, 2 and 3? E.g. Id_Subtopic? And are any of your lists multi-select?

I guess you could try if(this.selectionData[0].Id_Subtopic === id){ lObj.filterListClientSide(id); lObj2.filterListClientSide(id)} and see if equal value and equal type works instead of just equal value..

This is the code used in the OnSelect property of list1, I skipped the lObj declaration because that one is filtered using the argument and it is working perfectly. Is that the error, I need to declared lObj too?

I also tried Peter's approach, I see the textbox getting the id_Materia value from list1, but when I go to list 3 it now shows a blank panel, I put the filter as he is explaining, but I get a Blank Panel, somehow it is not working, frustrating. Thank you very much both for your help.

If I put an explicit value in the filter, the list is showing correctly, so the list is correctly configure, the problem here is passing that value that is not working for me.
