Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Sending email to bcc or cc using email_send_sparkpost()

    Hi all,
    I am replacing my email_send_mandrill code with email_send_sparkpost() as many due to the changes in Mandrill licensing, but I am having issues sending email to "bcc" and "cc" using the same code as with Mandrill, does anybody have successfully use email_send_sparkpost() including "bcc" or "cc" emails?

    I am using code like this below which is working, except that for "BCC" or "CC" email addresses I am not getting any email.
    Code:
    dim ms as p
                ms.send_to = "[email protected]:Optional friendly name for John Smith,[email protected]"

    ms.send_to_bcc = "[email protected]"
    ms.send_to_cc = "[email protected]"

    ms.from_email = "[email protected]"
                ms.from_name = "Sales at Acme" 'friendly name - optional
                ms.subject = "Information You Requested"
                ms.message_html = "Here is the <b>information</b> you requested."
                dim key as c = "your sparkpostkey"
                pp = email_send_SparkPost(key,ms)
    Again, with above code using real emails, I get emails for ms.send_to, but I don't get ms.send_to_bcc or ms.send_to_cc emails.

    As always any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    It may be that the Alpha SparkPost function doesn't (yet) have the option for including cc and bcc. Here's a SparkPost article which talks about how to provide the JSON required for cc and bcc. Using this, you'd have to provide your own SparkPost function (most likely cURL) to allow these options.

      Hi David,

      Thanks very much for the link and the recommendations, they are very helpful.

      I got a email from Jerry letting me know that this functionality was missing from current function but that has been fixed and will be included in the next pre-release.

        Re: Sending email to bcc or cc using email_send_sparkpost()

        Hi Guys
        Has anyone got an idea how to send email as a PDF attachment using ONLY SMTP please? All of the code that I can find has Mandrill as the example.
        Here is my current code. It send but does not add an attachment to the email.

        function email_sendsmtp_only as c(e as P)

        dim passwd as c = "thepassword"
        dim pm as P
        dim ps as P

        dim b as b
        dim key as c
        key = e.fileSessionKey

        session.GetDataFromFile(b,key)
        dim size as n
        size = b.size()
        if size = 0 then
        emailreport = "alert('Report was NOT sent - Too Small.');"
        exit function
        end if

        if (email_smtp_open(ps,"mail.domain.co.uk",587,"[email protected]",passwd,"None")) then
        pm.to = e._currentRowDataNew.sendto
        'pm.to = "[email protected]"
        pm.from = "[email protected]"
        pm.subject = "Landlord Report"
        pm.html_message = "Hello world with report1"

        dim pm.attachmentsArray(1) as p
        pm.attachmentsArray[1].name = "Report1.pdf"
        pm.attachmentsArray[1].type = resolve_mime_type("pdf")
        pm.attachmentsArray[1].content = base64encode(b)
        dim pResult as p

        pResult = email_smtp_send(pm,ps)

        end if
        email_smtp_close(ps)

        end function

          Re: Sending email to bcc or cc using email_send_sparkpost()

          Adrian,

          You are combining instructions for email_smtp_send() with the mandrill function. If you are going to use email_smtp_send() then you just set your attachments per the instructions for THAT function, like:

          pm.attachments = <<%str%
          C:\dev\test.zip
          C:\my documents\report.zip
          %str%

          or

          pm.attachments = "C:\dev\test.zip,C:\my documents\report.zip"

            Re: Sending email to bcc or cc using email_send_sparkpost()

            Thank you, Steve

            I added the following Line at the top of the xbasic function

            dim reportName as C = e.reportFilename

            and then used your this line for the attachment

            pm.attachments = reportName

            It all works fine now. One thing I would Like to address though. How do I set the name of the attachment when it is placed in the email? My email attachments are being name like this
            TMP2A46.pdf was one
            TMP1750.pdf was another
            It would be good if they could be the reportName or a name of my choice.

            Thanks Again

              Sending email with attachment using SMTP ONLY

              I hope that this can help someone else as it took me a while to figure this out.

              To send an email with an attachment using only SMTP.

              function email_sendsmtp_only as c(e as P)

              dim passwd as c = "thepassword"
              dim reportName as C = e.reportFilename

              dim pm as P
              dim ps as P

              dim b as b
              dim key as c
              key = e.fileSessionKey

              session.GetDataFromFile(b,key)
              dim size as n
              size = b.size()
              if size = 0 then
              emailreport = "alert('Report was NOT sent - Too Small.');"
              exit function
              end if

              if (email_smtp_open(ps,"smtp.domain.co.uk",your_port_number_ie_25,"email_address_to_send_from.co.uk",passwd,"None")) then
              pm.to = e._currentRowDataNew.sendto 'name of field on the UX that has the email address
              'pm.to = "[email protected]" ' uncomment this line to always send to the same address
              pm.from = "[email protected]"
              pm.subject = "Your Email Subject Here"
              pm.html_message = "Hello world Body of Email Message"

              pm.attachments = reportName

              email_smtp_send(pm,ps)

              end if
              email_smtp_close(ps)

              end function
