Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    geography data display on maps

    Hello,

I store geography data type as polygon in SQL server from an alpha web form. How can I display those polygons on maps in Alpha?

    Thanks

Only available in the grid component.

Pete... why/how only available in grids?

Luan... what version of SQL Server? What version of Alpha? Mapping using what? I believe this has less to do this Alpha than with SQL Server and whatever you're using for mapping. How about an example of data as well.

Have spent time with Selwyn on this and he confirms polygons and polygon search are not supported in the UX component - if you have a way l'm all ears.

I guess I don't understand... although there's not much info given in the original question... and subsequently what the issue is with a UX. However Luan, is this what you want to do?

So David are you saying the video demo's a UX component with polyone search capabilities, if so would you share your method. Cheers, Pete

Re: geography data display on maps

Luan didn't mention a polygon search - he asked about displaying a polygon on a map in Alpha. The video shows displaying a Google Map from an Alpha html page a UX within a PanelCard. The polygon can exist in sql server as a geography type and as a computed column (text). You can then query the computed column, get the polygon data, format it the way you need it, and send it along to the html page. Not sure where the polygon search discussion came from.

OK - I see, do you know how anyway?

How anyway? You mean Polygon search? But you said, and you said that Selwyn said,... it can't be done. I'm confused.

Re: geography data display on maps

Well I thought I would ask as you are always looking for ways to do things - your pivot grid for example (also not supported by Alpha out of the box). I was just wondering if you had ventured down the polygon search path - your way. Thanks for your response, all good. Pete.

I'm actually unsure why this is an Alpha thing. Isn't a polygon search more of a sql thing.

It's ok - just leave it - will speak later about the UDP project.
