Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Change Bubblehelp Style

That video doesn't help because it just gives you the standard bubble help styling, which I already have!

I'm not looking for the row expander, it also doesn't accomplish what I'm looking for.

I guess the custom template may be the way to do this but it means a huge amount of work for all my lists and I'm not sure it's worth it. I dunno, I'll take a look at that way and see.

Once again, this seems like something that should be so simple yet turns out to be way more difficult than it needs to be.

Thanks for all the input and ideas everyone.

    Re: Change Bubblehelp Style

Yes if you look at the list as an HTML template the web is your oyster you can do anything. The question really is "Am I doing this the best way with the tools available"

For me, this is fairly light weight as this is all done client side once the JSON object is delivered. As we are doing this in the client we can manipulate the DOM.

Obviously the styling and spacing requires some work.

    stephen,
does the list control have onMouseOver and onMouseOut events. if so, you may be able to use those methods.
since my opinion is list control is nothing but read only grid fashioned for version 12, i am thinking it will have those methods. i won't know myself since i do not have version 12.

    Re: Change Bubblehelp Style

I have made it work and sent it to Falah who will post it on Alphasnip. The list control is just a client-side template. (All be it complex). So I went to W3Schools and used this example.http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_tooltip.asp.

    Hope this helps.

Consider reposting your results when they are finished.

I think you would be better of going down the path as in the UXL_V12-32 video - the list control doesn't really bother with bubble help. Row Expander List Control

Michael, are you able to make this work in a list component?

I've tried everything I can think of but I still get the same default popup for list fields, which is really what I'm after

    Re: Change Bubblehelp Style

Yes and no. Khanfi did mention it but when we have populated it a little more Richard is going to do a blog. I guess we will introduce it in this manner by offering useful "Snips". Jay Talbot is going to put Dropjs on a page so I think most of us will love that. I will speak to Jim Coltz as he always has great components. I thought I would take it slow at first. We are quite good with Google so I will release some map functions and a range of charts.

The next phase will have a new stylesheet for Alpha. The css is built with Sass and is very approachable.

Michael, thank you. Much appreciated. I will give this a try later on this week and report back.

AlphaSnip looks awesome by the way!!! What a great idea and really nicely implemented to boot. I didn't know you had this great resource, have you announced this to the forum?
