Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • help...... help!

    Can anyone tell me if I can get the older style of help back?

    I am trying to find the usage of the A5.msgBox() method. After 10 pages of suggestions I have given up.

    Why do they make it so hard to find simple things.

    They have taken away the wiki too.

    Re: help...... help!

    In my older grids I use this...

    Code:
    A5.msgBox.show('Saving...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'>Please wait while we save your records.</div>','none',function() {});
    To hide it I use...

    Code:
    A5.msgBox.hide();

    I hope that helps

      Re: help...... help!

      Found this in an old forum thread...

      http://www.alphasoftware.com/alphafo...A5-msgBox-show

      A5.msgBox.show(title,html,type,onClose)

      This fuction can be used to display a message box in the HTML that is done entirely in Javascript and HTML meaning that you can present the user with a customized HTML message. The 'title' contains the title HTML text to display on the message box. 'html' contains the HTML to display in the body of the message box. The 'type' is a flag to tell the message box what buttons to display. The values for this flag are:

      * "o" - "OK" button.
      * "oc" - "OK" and "Cancel" buttons.
      * "yn" - "Yes" and "No" buttons.
      * "ync" - "Yes", "No" and "Cancel" buttons.
      * "none" - no buttons.

      The 'onClose' argument is a Javascript function that will be called when the user closes the message box. This function will be passed a string containing the value of the button the user pressed ("ok", "yes", "no", or "cancel"). ed ("ok", "yes", "no", or "cancel").

      Example

      A5.msgBox.show('Save','Do you wish to save.','ync',function(button){
      if(button == 'yes'){
      // code to save...
      } else if(button == 'no'){
      // code to close without saving...
      }
      );

        Thanks for the help. With the old help style I had a tab with that information loaded.

          Within your Alpha install you'll find a folder named localDocumentation. In here is a set of zip files. One of them is A5LocalDocumentation.zip. Unzip this and you'll find a DBF file.

          Back in Alpha I attached this DBF under the Control Panel and then built a really quick UX to Search and List... it's attached.

          I'm sure the online doc will become more extensive as we report stuff and I know it's evolving... but for now I can find msgbox.

          Because of the data format I still can't find A5.msgBox.show... so I just added a new record into the DBF table and now I can do this...

            To find the old Documentation go to View/Settings/Preferences/Documentation and select Use Legacy

                  Thank you for that. I hope they are continuing to update the legacy help too.
