Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email pdf report from mobile

    Hi

How can I email a report as pdf from a mobile device?

It works perfectly from a grid by using the xbasic function via mandrill, etc.

Is there something different to consider when using mobile ux?

It's a list box returning the ID of the report required - the same record source as the grid.

    Thanks

As far as I know, there is not much different. Although there are slightly different methods in a grid vs a UX when setting variables but if you did it in a grid you can probably do it in a UX in a very short time. Personally, I think grids are very easy, but a UX and a list control gives you 300 times the options! Learn them, you will quickly see how much more you can do!

If I may ask, how did you get the pdf report to attach to the email? I'm trying to figure this out but can't figure out where you would specify the report?

Design your report and make sure it works as expected from a button in the grid.
Insert a new button which opens the same report with the same sql filters, etc

In the target window/DIV,Tabbed UI Pane or Panel section set the target to 'Xbasic'

Name the Xbasic function whatever you wish. Click the builder icon (...) on this line and then click 'Show Funtion Prototype'

Copy and paste this info into a new xbasic funtion in the Code section of the grid. Modify it accordingly - its not too difficult to work out what to change - eg from address, message content, etc.

I've only had this working successfully with mandrill integration - you need to have this configured in web project settings. Also mandrill now require a subscription to use their service.

        Hope this helps

          worked perfect! Thanks!

How would you insert the customer's email address into the To field dynamically? I've tried a few different ways, but can't get it to work. The field is MainContactEmail.

And I got the same to work in a UX. Seems on my system though the Mandrill key is not recognized from the Project Properties. I had to enter it into the xbasic code.

I've got it working in a UX now as well - must have been typo or something...

The way I got the email address to be dynamic was as follows:

              - Ensure the grid is based on an sql statement.
              - Select primary key to be the ID & the email address field (in your case MainContactEmail)
              - in the xbasic function, set the .send_to address = e._currentRowKeys[1]

This method works quite well for me so far. This field can also be a comma seperated list of addresses if required.
