Can Alpha please show some love for Grid Components???

This is not to start a flame war or war on UX vs Grid. It's just at time's I find a Grid meets the need and is quicker to setup. Not asking for a lot...just something simple like the option on the UX builder to move a field to specific location without clicking an up or down arrow 10 times.

Um, you can already do that...the move option is in the menu in the UX builder to move any control or consecutive controls all at once to any location.

Charles...maybe it wasn't clear when I wrote it but that feature you speak of on the UX...that is what I'm asking to be added to the Grid design.

Not quite as easy but you could bulk highlight the 10 items above and them move them down in 1 click?

They should just add that feature to the grid and several others from the UX. Frankly, it is annoying.

you don't have to do that, just click on the field and left arrow the click where you need to place it back and click right arrow it will replaced. it may be annoying i am sure, certain things are built one way and the grid while easy is not the best especially when you are in version 12, look at list it is the same grid with more properties.

i am not implying to support one over the other, especially i shouldn't when i work with only version 11. the lists are nothing but read only grids with whistles and bells and light weight definitely sexier than the grids i am sure.

But then you lose any attributes you assigned or built in that field. They should just add the functionality.

I have switched 'most' of my grids over to lists however, there are still some things that are better handled by grids imho ... reference file downloads for one

Oh I have it figured out. It's just way easier and more intuitive in a grid than in a list.

i am wondering, since i don't have access to lists you have to explain this to me.

even though the filename is clearly in the list.

this is from the other post.
since the name of the file - notes is a part of the list do you need to specify list object prefix to locate the child contained in the list something like list_id::child_field_name?
in the grid it is done for you, each one field has unique identity.

I don't know, perhaps there is a way, I just don't know how to do it. What I meant was in the list, there is a field called notes which holds the correct filepath. However, to execute a file download, you have to call a javascript event which then resides in the UX properties not the list properties. The File Download action javascript gives you a choice of dropdown controls for the fieldname (referenced file) but this only contains controls in the UX not in the list component ie) Notes is not in the dropdown choices.

So yeah, that was my dilemma, I didn't know how to access the fieldname directly.

if not, you can create a dummy field and onclick the image populate that dummy field with the notes field and the javascript to download the file in the dummy field.

Ghandi, that's exactly what I ended up doing .. populating the 'dummy' field. And that works. I understand what you mean, it's just not well explained and I'll have to look more into how to access the list directly.
