Resizing a list control (height) after incremental refresh

Im trying to figure out how to make the list resize after an incremental refresh. If for example I have 1 job (record/row) in the list, and my office staff added 3 more, so I now have a total of four. If I do an incremental refresh of the list, it shows all 4, but in a scrollable list which remains the same size as a single row...

Mobile or Web? Are you specifying the height of the List in the first place? What, specifically, is an incremental refresh. What's the method for this?

Understood... rarely use that option of the .refreshListData method.

You may want to review your use of incremental refreshes, not only are they load heavy, they are intended to preserve the the current view you have of the current records in the list - but with any data that was in the list refreshed on any modified item - the purpose is not to refresh other items to the list that may have been subsequently added by others - it's about the view you had and a review of the view you now have - so an incremental refresh only refresh's whats in the list - nothing else, it sends a checksum to the server for each list row and sees if it's changed, if it has - it's refreshed - if it is the same nothing happens, so you will not see any new items from anyone else.

Not quite Pete... new records are added, which is what should be happening. You're refreshing the view you're looking at, with anything that's changed in the table. "Changed" in this case means added as well.

I rarely get to use it, but it's an excellent method of "polling" to ensure you have up to date info.

Well not from my experience - from Selwyn in a note to me the other day.
because incremental refresh 1) requires that each record sent to the client has a CRC and 2) when you do an incremental refresh you have to send all of the CRC values back to the server and then the server does a (relatively expensive) test to find which records were changed.

Give it a try... you'll see newly added records added to the List. I understand how it works, but I've not seen or read anything that says new rows are not sent back to the client as well. And... testing bears this out.

Typically, we have 1 to 15 records in this list. I don't think using this method is a problem from what i've seen. I am not setting a height initially, it just dynamically creates the size based on the number of records. I was hoping to avoid having a scrolling list within the panel so we can just scroll the whole panel. The technicians are accessing this from tablets and phones of various types.

Well the info would have helped in the first post - that said, what is the list in, a container, or a panel card and what are the settings.

Ok... so you're working with PanelCards. Putting a List control into a PanelCard without setting Fill Container has some drawbacks. However, the List control without a height set, will dynamically resize itself on an incremental refresh... for adding or removing rows. Here's a before and after incremental refresh. You're not giving up a lot of information about how you've got this set up. It important to know the environment the List is living in.

I have a list on a panel card. I set it to fill the container. i put an incremental refresh button in the panelfooter. Everytime i hit that button, I get an empty list. I replaced it with a regular refresh button and get the same results... I dont get it. This seems so basic. Im using the defined controls, List-Detail View-Buttons Genie to create these...

You either have a filter on the List that's not returning any hits or you've got a javascript error somewhere. Or... you've got something else going on in your UX that you've not mentioned... yet. Post your UX and a sample table and it can be tested. Incremental refresh works on my List.

So I rebuilt the same app from scratch and every issue i had is gone... All I can guess is maybe because it was built with an older version of Alpha, and modified on a newer version of Alpha, some unexplainable issues happened.
