Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Refresh embedded grid

    Hello,

    I've run into a problem that seems simple, but too complex/important for what I'm trying to do.

    I have got a UX componnet and an embedded grid in it. I want to refress the grid to display the data based on the data I have entered in three controls on the UX.

    How do I refresh the grid?

    Thanks,
    Luan

    Hi Luan

    Click on your embedded Grid look for the link property and link your Grid to the UX component.
    Mr. Selwyn explained it thoroughly in this video: Live Linking a Grid that is Embeded in a UX component

      Thanks, Maroine!

      The problem is that the UX component only contains unbound fileds that are used to pass parameters to the query of the grid. The UX fields are FromDate and ToDate. I just want to refreshe the grid with the data for the new date values.

      Regards,
      Luan

        Re: Refresh embedded grid

        First you need to give that embedded grid a unique alias in the UX. Apply a base filter then in your button (or however you're initiating this) you'll need to get the child object, then a simple grid refresh.

        Code:
        var cObj = {dialog.object}.getChildObject('GRID_ALIAS_HERE');

        cObj.refresh();
        EDIT: Here is a test component for you. You'll need the Northwind sample database to run it. You select a customer in my textbox and after doing so the grid is automatically updated.

          Re: Refresh embedded grid

          Thanks, Mike!

          The fields I have on the UX cannot be linked to the grid as they are used for setting the parameters that filter the data for the grid (I'm summing up values with where conditions).

          The trouble I have now is that the grid shows the values for the first criteria I use, but it doesn't refresh when I change the criteria.

          Thanks,
          Luan

            I don't know Luan ...too many unknowns here. If you post a sample component with some data I'll take a look. Beyond that look through the {grid} methods that are available. Maybe there is a search method you could use.

              Try using javascript grid refresh method in the date control OnChange event!

              Another idea that comes to mind is you can simply add a date field in database table where your Grid is bound to and then have a search part where you can search in the grid using that date field where you would insert this inline javascript
              {grid.Object}.submitSearchForm();
              in the onChageEvent and then you can embed both the Grid and its search part into your UX if thats what you need to do.

              hope this helps.
