Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Licenses lost from AppServer

I have two AppServers. One is kept fully current, the other might lag a patch or two. Both are current within a couple of months.

Last night, BOTH SERVERS HAD THEIR LICENSE EVAPORATE! POOF! GONE!

Users woke to DEMO MODE and no access. 70 users and 125 trucks with tablets were inoperative.

Both are restarted overnight through AlwaysUp and this has not been an issue with AppServer v12 ... until last night.

I re-keyed the license codes and all is operational, but who knows what the morning brings!

Both servers are hosted at SoftLayer, same place as some ZebraHost servers, and live among 1,000s of other servers.
One is in Houston and one in Dallas.

    Hey Carl,

Not sure why that occurred but I alternate the restarts just to be on the safe side. So only some of my servers are restarted by always up each night...

    Cheers,

    Scott

The two servers are unrelated. One is primarily my test server where I promptly bite on the latest patch from Alpha.

The other is production and services over 70 web users and more that 125 tablets.

POOF! And my serial numbers (good through Dec2016 and Oct2017) evaporated from the server config this AM!

I see a place where I could mark a file as READ ONLY once the license is established. Might try that.

      c:\ProgramData\.....................\ApplicationServerConfig.xml

This incident cannot be a regular occurrence or I'll be sleeping with the fishes. Kapish?

I'm imagining Robert De Niro standing over you as you scramble to get the app servers back up ....lol.

If I recall correctly this has happened before to another developer here.

The trucks are a recycling business ... they'd know how to dispose of me ... some of their recycled product becomes animal feed.
I might wind up as someone's bologn... oh, never mind.

However, why did it happen to BOTH servers, same day, different servers at different server farms, unrelated businesses, different domains?

I sense a 3am "MUST check on the servers!" morning jaunt in my future.

the server or the program that checks whether you are current or not may be at fault, getting up at 3 am to check the server, in my opinion, is futile. this can happen at various times.
if indeed the other program is at fault they should fix that
especially when you have only few choices, either swimming with the fishes or becoming bologna.
