Here is one method via a xbasic function...

Code:

dim to as c = "Mike"
dim fr as c = "Fred"
dim ttl as c = "Some title"
dim bdy as c = "This is a sample XML file."
dim xmlOut as c = ""

xmlOut = "<note>" + crlf() + "   <to>" + to + "</to>" + crlf() + "   <from>" + fr + "</from>" + crlf() + "   <title>" + ttl + "</title>" + crlf() + "   <body>" + bdy + "</body>" + crlf() + "</note>"

?xmlOut
= <note>
   <to>Mike</to>
   <from>Fred</from>
   <title>Some title</title>
   <body>This is a sample XML file.</body>
</note>

To get a file based on that you could then use the file.from_string() method.

There is a better way after playing with the interactive window. Explore the .ToXML() method. I haven't fully done so myself and the code below is incomplete but hopefully this gives you a push in the right direction (sorry, I've run out of time today). The below code uses the Northwind sample database.

Code:

dim cs as c
      cs = "::name::conn"	
dim cn as sql::Connection
dim rs as sql::ResultSet
dim sql as c
dim xmlString as c

sql = "SELECT CustomerID,CompanyName,ContactName FROM Customers WHERE CustomerID = 'ALFKI'"

if cn.open(cs)
   if cn.Execute(sql)
	rs = cn.ResultSet
	cn.FreeResult()
	cn.close()
	xmlString = rs.ToXML()
  else
       'SQL connection problem
       cn.Close()
       exit function
   end if
end if

Here's the link to the documentation for this method: SQL::ResultSet::toXML function. There's a toXML method for the SQL::Connection object, as well, which lets you skip the part with ResultSet.
