hello

simply want to set a session variable to equal a value in a repeating section.

example: i want click a button located on repeating section and set variable before calling a grid component.

any help greatly appreciated.

if it can be done in an xbasic function thats great. just having troubles finding code to do this.

A couple of ways to do this Dave, here is one.
On the click of your button, add this:

//Get active row number
var rn ={dialog.Object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow('REPEATINGSECTION_1',true);

//read value in 'TEST1' from the active row of a Repeating Section.
var sessionVal = {dialog.object}.getValue('TEST1:'+rn);

//Ajax callback
{dialog.object}.ajaxCallback('','','setSessionVar','','_sessionVal='+sessionVal,{deviceOfflineFunction: function() {   }});

In your xbasic function, just set the session variable value:

session.mySessionVar = e._sessionVal

setSessionVar = "alert('"+e._sessionVal+"');"

It has to be done with a xbasic function.

In a button, or an onChange event, or however you're going to do it you'll need an ajax callback with the specific repeating section row and data.

JS code...

//Get the active repeating section row
var rs = {dialog.Object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow('MYREPEATINGSECTION');

//Get the data in that row
var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('myField:'+rs);

//Ajax callback
{dialog.object}.ajaxCallback('','','setMySessionVariable','','__val='+val);

The xbasic function...

function setMySessionVariable as c (e as p)

dim value as c

value = e.__val

session.mysessionvar = value

end function

Hi guys, just another quick question...

I'm attempting to utilize this session variable within a called grid. I can't seem to be able to access it. Do I need to "pull the session variable" back in somehow to be able to utilize it?

As you can see I'm not that familiar with session variables....

How exactly are you trying to use this session variable?

Look for this in your grid...it may help.

I am actually trying to show/hide linked content based on the variable.

ok, then in that show/hide expression box you should just be able to write session.mysessionVar = "something". When that session var is equal to "something" then the linked content will appear. This doesn't filter records in the linked content ...only makes the linked content window show or hide.

I'd have to build a couple simple components to test all of that for sure but that is how it should work.

Keep in mind session variables do not work in working preview.

When that session var is equal to "something" then the linked content will appear. This doesn't filter records in the linked content ...only makes the linked content window show or hide.

All session variables should be created and stored as character types. Attempts to create session variables of other types will result in warnings in the xbasic log. See Understanding and Using Session Variables for more information.

Sarah's right ... not sure what I was thinking when I wrote about numeric vs. character vs. logical. Must be doing too many things at once.
