Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Sum of Price Columns in UX List

    I'm trying to calculate the total of all the prices in a list. After calculating the total, it would either be input into a Detail View for List 3 (Hierarchy mentioned below) to be edited or pushed to the server. The list contains 2 different prices based on the type of sale. The list is populated through SQL and is built in disconnected mode with the data being Pre-loaded. The List is a great-grandchild in the list (List1 -> List2 -> List3 -> Target List). I have tried to use the "Compute Summary Values" in the list, but the "afterClientSideSummaryCompute" event triggers before the list is populated.
    Can someone help to lead me to a possible Solution or provide an example?
    I'm currently on a trial version of Alpha Anywhere which is using Version 12.4.2, Build 3670_4684.

    Evan... first... thanks for providing needed information... excellent.

    I understand the principle of what you'd like to do but need a bit of clarification. You're only wanting to calculate totals for List 4. Is that right? You say List 4 contains 2 different prices... but does that mean 2 different columns to total and add together... or 1 column to sum?

      Re: Sum of Price Columns in UX List

      I have 2 different columns which need to be summed together, e.g. SUM(column1) + SUM(column2). The last 2 columns in the attached image contain the customer's sale and refill amounts and I want to sum both columns and get the total amount spent by that customer to store in a field called orderAmount. Each row contains a different item that they have ordered or refilled.
      orderAmount = SUM(NewSaleAmount) + SUM(NewRefillAmount)

        Re: Sum of Price Columns in UX List

        Since you're pre-loading data... all the child data is actually in it's Parent List. It's not an issue to get the data Array and sum 2 properties in the Object per row. Pushing it out to the Detail View of the Parent seems to be a bit messy. I'm going to continue to have a look at that, because it's really interesting.

        However, using the Child List we can get this done. The List afterClientSideSummaryCompute is interesting... but... it fires twice for anything it does. Not sure why, but I'll try to find out. Also, it's timing isn't the best for what we want. Instead, use the Child List onList Draw event...

        Code:
        var totSale = {dialog.object}.getListClientSideSummaryValue('LISTCHILD','NEWSALEAMOUNT','total');
        var totRefill = {dialog.object}.getListClientSideSummaryValue('LISTCHILD','NEWREFILLAMOUNT','total');
        var sumTot = totSale + totRefill;
        sumTot = Math.round(sumTot*100)/100;
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('CUSTAMOUNT',sumTot);
        This gets the Summary Values, totals them, and shoves the total into the Parent Detail View.

        Then, in the Parent List, onClick event...

        setTimeout(function(){
        var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LISTPARENT');
        lObj.updateListFromUXControls();
        },200);

        Here, we just save the .setValue() result to the Parent List. But, we have to give our Lists a bit of time to settle down before doing this. If you don't... really really horrible things happen. Nothing damaging or permanent... just horrible. Try it without the setTimeout and let me know if you can see the odd results.
