Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

High Load Alpha Anywhere on IIS Servers / Stability Question

    Hi Everyone,
If you have the time I would love some additional information on running off IIS.

I am under the impression the IIS implementation of Alpha is still in beta - is this correct?
How many users are you guys currently supporting per day?
Have you had any issues with IIS implementation?
Have you had any unexpected crashes / server downtime?

We have a V12 app that runs fairly well but once in a while - it will crash. Very intermittent no sort of pattern etc.
We are running around 20-40 users on 1 server and I think we may just be hitting load limits. Memory and CPU seems okay though.

We are going to look at deploying another instance or moving to IIS.

Would love to hear the community's thoughts on the matter.

I would like to hear from the IIS experts as well.

We are running the latest stable build with IIS, Window Standard Server 2012 r2 with 155 users spread over the US. Our data center is in Dallas, TX.

Also running SQL Server 2012 on the same virtual machine.

All is running well; no issues.

I did abandon the Form View Control as the last build destroyed all of the code I had for my mobile devices. 155 angry users isn't where you want to be. Initial testing worked on the iPhone but did not work on any Android device. That is a control I doubt I will implement again anytime soon.

I also do not use Alpha's built in security; I created one loosely based on OAuth and it's working well.

Sounds good advice - thanks. Hmm Superman - is it Lex Luther..

I also would like to hear real world experiences and an answer to some questions:

            - Alpha IIS still seems to be beta - is it ready for big real world applications?
            - Is it possible to run both WAS and IIS at the same server (for a limited period of time) for testing purpose and speed comparison?

            Thanks,
            Dietmar

I already responded to Scott privately, but it seems like others are looking for feedback on IIS so I'll throw my comments into the mix.

We are running Alpha Server IIS on a virtualized Hyper-V Windows Server 2012 R2. Made the jump about a year ago and have been running rock solid ever since.
We have no problems with service stoppages or performance issues. Our application sees a relatively light load with perhaps 5-10 users at any give time.

Through the initial setup we worked closely with Alpha Software. They helped us work through the initial installation and configuration road bumps and we helped them to
resolve a few bugs as well. We provided them with a feedback report on the implementation. Now, that was over a year ago and I expect the transition to be much easier.

In the beginning, we kept the old WAS running while we were testing the IIS implementation in parallel. So, yes you can run both servers at the same time. Ours were on physically
different workstations. After about 3-4 months we were satisfied with the IIS performance, switched over completely to IIS Server and turned off the WAS.

I'm not certain whether Alpha IIS is still considered beta or not. The last time I spoke with Alpha on this, they were working through some technical challenges on converting
exisiting IIS beta licenses to production licenses. So, it kind of sounds like we are past the beta stage.
