Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Refresh Checkbox data- SQL

I have a checkbox on an app that pulls it's choices from a SQL - Server database. I would think that this data would be pulled at runtime so the choices would get updated but it seems that they are set in stone at build. Using .getControl() and .refresh() don't work for checkboxes and I don't see a way that I can even create a blank checkbox and populate it with data afterwards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A checkbox or a radio button?

It's a checkbox. I needed the ability to multiselect.

What does the sql table you are pulling the choices from look like?

          Re: Refresh Checkbox data- SQL

Its a table of options for a few checkboxes. There is a column for ListID and value. The list ID is what each checkbox is filtered on. So a ListID of 'Cause' shows 4 values that are to show up in the checkbox CB_CAUSE.

Are you using a databound UX to save the checkbox data? I don't see a problem with getting a dynamic number of checkboxes from a sql table based on my filter criteria.

              Re: Refresh Checkbox data- SQL

I have the results of the checkboxes saved on a list that persists to local storage upon submission in the event that the user doesn't have service. My main issue is being able to update the checkbox options without having to redeploy the app.

So right now I create and update the app on my local machine which has Sql Server on it and an identical DB. My connection strings are set for local as long as the app is working locally and I have different connection strings depending on where I am publishing under each profile. What I have noticed is that even when the app is published to my production server the checkboxes hold the value that was on my local DB.

I would like that when I make a change to the checkbox choices on the DB that they change in app either after a restart or possible adding in code to check during a submit.

I haven't made it into the mobile space yet, but I do remember coming across a post somewhere where somebody had a similar issue to this, but I think it was with dropdown boxes or radio buttons on mobile apps. I can't seem to find it right now, but that might give you some more info to finding that thread somewhere.

Thank you for looking into it, I appreciate it. I did see that Drop Downs have all of the methods I would need to get this done quite easily. I even tried to use them and just put in the check box ID to see if the functionality would carry over, but unfortunately does not.
