Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Missing Documentation for the a5_xb_runReport() function

I can't find any help documentation for the a5_xb_runReport() function. I see the video, but I'd like to see the methods that can be used. Is there someone at Alpha that is in charge of the Help documentation that I can report this to?

    Thanks.

Re: Missing Documentation for the a5_xb_runReport() function

Let me give this a bump. I need to use this function to print a PDF to a Window but can't figure out how. I know how to print to a DIV on a page but that won't do.

There USED to be SOME additional insight on a5_xb_runreport in one of the sets of Release Notes, but the Release Notes for the latest version of AA don't have it.

How are we supposed to use this function? ARE we supposed to use this function?

Al: That's exactly what I did; well, OK, I didn't restrict it to this site. I got essentially what I got by entering "a5_xb_runreport" directly into "Advanced Search" on this site; about 5 posts, none of which address my issue.

Unless, of course, I'm missing something obvious. Do you see more posts, or see anything in the posts returned that discuss this problem?

        Thanks for the suggestion.

Gandhi: I know, there is actually one video I've seen (posted in at least two different places) which doesn't address my issue. As I say, there WAS a bit more detail in one of the older release notes, although I don't believe it was ever shown how to display the file in a window. There's not even any "intellisense" for this a5_xb_runreport in the XBasic editor. It seems this function is built on report.saveas, maybe we're supposed to save the PDF and then figure out how to display it in a pop-up.

Thanks for the posting and trying to help me out.

                That's excellent... thank you Sarah.

Could you add a bit more? For the section "inputProps.pdfOptions" could you add what those optional PDF Options could be with an example of their settings?

                Thanks.

I believe the .pdfOptions are the same as for the report saveas methods. You can find them listed here: http://www.alphasoftware.com/documen...eas%20function

I'll look into how best to integrate the options into the article.

Ok... thanks Sarah. I was looking at the doc entry more as documentation than actually my needing to know the PDFOptions right now. Either the specifics for the PDF Options or a link to the PDF Options from a5_xb_runReport() would be great. As long as it's all together or supplemented with a link. Cheers.

Pointing out the pdfOptions omission is an excellent catch.

I'm putting together an example for pdfOptions since they are specified as a crlf delimited list and not an object. I'll post back here when it's available.

                      Thanks!
