Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PhoneGap List Scroll Freeze

    Hi Everyone,

    Wondering if anyone else has encountered this before I delve in further myself.

    Building a PhoneGap application and for the most part everything works fine but occasionally the ability to scroll on lists or panels "freezes". You can switch between panels, activate visible buttons (even log out) but on every panel you can't scroll beyond what is visible. So its like the scroll is completely frozen. The only way to recover is reboot the phone or close the app.

    This glitch is more likely if you refresh a panel card and as its refreshing you tap the screen or scroll up or down ( as an actual user might do while they are waiting for it to refresh).

    Anyone else encounter this?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Yes I have - its the Elephant in the Room with AA and Mobile - The issue is worse if you are persisting data to the device in local storage, the timing of coming from a panel say editing data then returning to the list panel just as the refresh occurs - it's all over.. - it's my biggest concern with my clients.

      Any workarounds you have come up with?

        Well as I said Local storage is one hurdle, the other is anything that should appear in the header say search etc. is better in a silent panel and set as injectable contaner, then place them in the header and header data of the list layout, that's worked for me a few times - also if you are submitting the lists detail view - then returning to the list in another Panel, then ad a set time out after the save before the list appears.

        setTimeout(function() { },1000);

          Hi Pete,

          Being doing some more playing around and here is another solution to add to the tool kit. The issue seems to occur a lot when you refresh a list and the "old" list is still visible or becomes visible before the new list data is rendered. If the user scrolls on the old data, when the new list is rendered it freezes (likely because on the phone the position of the finger and where it is vs. the expected row of the new list don't line up).

          Anyway, when you do a refresh or navigate back to a panel card, use this javascript statement first:

          {dialog.object}._listRemoveAllRows('YourListName');

          It wipes out the list so the user is presented with a blank screen and can't scroll. Only the new rows will be shown when rendered. Seems to cut down on the freezes.

          Cheers,

          Scott

            Hmm thanks - makes sense, anything to reduce the chances of freezing, I can tell you it does not take long before the client starts to crack it. It's a no no..
