Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Getting Information back from a Repeating section (list) on a UX

    Hi,
    I'm new to Alpha and am struggling with getting data back from a list on a UX. I'm using the following code :
    var l_rowNum = {dialog.object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow('LIST1');
    in the onClick event of a button after highlighting a row in the list and I just get a script error message.
    Can anyone help.
    Thanks

    Are you using a List Control or a Repeating Section. These two constructs are completely different.

    It sounds like you are using a List Control.

    If you want to get the value from a List Control, the syntax is:
    Code:
    var listValue = {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST1');
    The above will return the value of the selected row. If the List is based on a SQL data source, the return value may be the Primary Key for the record.

    If you want to query the List Control itself, you need to get a pointer to the List Control and call methods on the List. EG:
    Code:
    var listObject = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
    listObject._selectAll();
    Use the Insert Method dialog to insert methods for the List control. Search for "listObject" for a listing of methods that can be called on a List Object, which you can get by calling {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST_ID').

    See http://www.alphasoftware.com/documen...edapplications for more information about the List control.

      Re: Getting Information back from a Repeating section (list) on a UX

      The UX using a list was just a test as I was getting nowhere with getting data from a grid. In the grid I have 5 data columns, fields are SN_User_Id, SN_Key, SN_Description, SN_Value and SN_Prefix. Each row on the grid also has a button. The idea was that a row is highlighted then the button on the highlighted row is clicked and the code will trigger an ajax callback. Before the callback, I need to get the data from the highlighted row in fields SN_User_Id and SN_Key. The code getting the row number using getselectedrow works. However getting the data in the user id field gives errors as follows :
      var l_user_id = {grid.object}.getvalue('G','SN_USER_ID',l_rowNum) gives the error "Object doesn't support property or method 'getvalue'"
      and
      var l_user_id = {grid.object}.getvalue('G',SN_USER_ID,l_rowNum) gives the error "'SN_USER_ID' is undefined.
      Do I have to define the fields somewhere else ?
      Thanks

        Javascript is a case sensitive language. The function name is "getValue", not "getvalue". You could actually define two functions, "getValue" and "getvalue", and they would be interpreted as different functions in Javascript. So, the first error message you see, "Object doesn't support property or method 'getvalue'", indicates that the function name is wrong.

        The second error, "'SN_USER_ID' is undefined" is an error because no variable with the name "SN_USER_ID" exists.

        The code below should address the first error you saw:
        Code:
        var l_user_id = {grid.object}.getValue('G', 'SN_USER_ID', l_rowNum);

          Thank you for your help. I have another question, I'm using ajaxcallback to trigger a xbasic function and I would like this function to return values to several textboxes. The code I'm trying is below.
          js = "{dialog.object}.setValue('textbox2','"+rs.data(17)+"');{dialog.object).setValue('textbox3','"+rs.data(18)+"');"
          Get_Branch_Defaults=js
          Is this possible ?
          Thanks

              Thanks, In my application when the user is setting up a new product, there are several fields which need to be set with defaults, I have already got an ajaxcallback working returning 1 variable, but for the call back to return several it's the syntax I'm struggling with. The code
              js = "{dialog.object}.setValue('textbox2','"+rs.data(17)+"');{dialog.object).setValue('textbox3','"+rs.data(18)+"');"
              Get_Branch_Defaults=js
              gives the error "Expected ';'"
              Thank you

                Expected ; indicates that you have a syntax error. Which you do:

                Code:
                js = "{dialog.object}.setValue('textbox2','"+rs.data(17)+"');{dialog.object[B][COLOR="#FF0000"])[/COLOR][/B].setValue('textbox3','"+rs.data(18)+"');"
                Get_Branch_Defaults=js
                Correct the syntax error and the error should go away - assuming there are no other errors.
