Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

IIS -> Server Error in '/' Application.

After fiddling for a while I was able to have the web deploy working. Things are uploading correctly to my IIS server (well to the correct folder); but when ever I start the page it gives me an Server Error.

Even simple HTML page gives me an error. (but not the default Web Site). I've remove the Binding and Let either the IIS default website Run or the AA One.

I've let the web deploy create the full website directly in IIS, create the Application Pool. I can see in the Application Pools that the application
under that pool is set to one and viewing the application it points to the correct physical path.

Not real sure where to go from there.

SOLVED - Needed to install the latest MySQL Connect - https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/6.9.html

Can you share a screenshot of the error. I often find that I have to go start a Service named "ASP.NET State Service". Set to Automatic, but sometimes found not running.

Check out the service but was already running, just to make sure I restarted it it with no success here is the page displayed when trying to access the application.

So what I find, that 'error' is telling you that you have a 500 error with your application, programming issue, etc. But for security reasons it is defaulted to not show the actual error. Go to your Alpha project Publishing Profile and check the box "Show error detail in remote responses" and publish your application. I have not found out how yet, but I want that message to say something friendly to the poor user who got a programming error.

Be sure to turn on Logging from the IIS Manager for your website so you can see more detail about the error in the logs. The default logging location is nuts, I change my logs to save to "c:\a5\logs".

Just to mention, another common error is if your server runs out of memory serving up pages. I don't have a screenshot but it is an equally obscure and meaningless MS error screen. Alpha for IIS automatically kicks off additional instances of "IIS Worker Process" as usage increases. They are named "w3wp.exe in task manager and probably Alpha instances in disguise.

Each of those instances takes a minimum of 50MB of memory (could be much higher), MYSQL takes 500MB, your main Alpha instance might be up to 80-200MB, etc. I have found that if memory gets pegged, it displays the meaningless error message to the user and I have to restart the website to get it back up again.

So I did enable Show Error. Getting Could not load file or assembly 'MySQL.web, version=6.9.9.0, Culture=neutral, Public KeyToken=c056874656352fc' or one of its dependency. System cannot find the file specified.

The MySQL is installed on this IIS server.

Still haven`t found the solution; but I think it has to do with the MySQL Connector; still not to sure...

Check your application pool. Either use the Default application pool or change your application pool. I'm not at my IIS box at the moment but I think there seems to be two settings there. Make sure that Use 32 bit application is set to true. And also set "Use User Configuration is set to False". If your default application pool works you use that as a guide.

Value is True already for 32 bit application as for Load User Profile it is set to False (if that`s the option you are talking about)

Is your website using the default application pool?

Tried installing the MySQL Connector from the Web Deploy without any success. I know my MySQL is the 64bit edition? Should I install the 32bit?

No it created its own application pool when I use the web deploy option. (directly inside Alpha Anywhere)

Try pointing your website to the default application pool since we know that works.

I change it, but does not work (throws assembly error):

Could not load file or assembly 'system.web, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The given assembly name or codebase was invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131047)

Does the website run with the simple "default Web Site" c:\inetpub\wwwroot IIS HTML page?
