Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need help with an If() in Javascript function and xbasic functions

    I'm working in a UX and cannot get the below IF command to work in ether functions. Both are called from a button on the UX.

    Xbasic Function

    Code:
    function tt as c (e as p)

    dim jr as c

     jr = if(js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.status),"Awaiting Approval","")
    note = "alert('You submitted a value of: " + js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.invoiceNumber) + "');"

    end function
    And in the Xbasic Function

    HTML Code:
    function AP () {

     var AP = {dialog.object}.getValue('status');

     		if(AP == 'processed') {
     		alert(worked);
     		}
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    Hi John,

    Your second code (javascript) will work if you put this as inline-javascript in the onclick event on a button on a UX

    var ap={dialog.object}.getValue('status');
    if(ap=='processed'){
    alert('worked');
    }
    Sorry not got time at moment to look at your xbasic problem

      Do you really need a xbasic function to give an alert?? ..all of that can be done in js. Regardless, you need to emit the JS in "note" to the browser.

      Code:
      function tt as c (e as p)

      dim jr as c
      [COLOR="#FF0000"]dim note as c[/COLOR]

       jr = if(js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.status),"Awaiting Approval","")
      note = "alert('You submitted a value of: " + js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.invoiceNumber) + "');"

      [COLOR="#FF0000"]tt = note[/COLOR]

      end function

          Mike I'm still receiving the following Error. I should have also said the 'Status' field is a drop drown not sure if that is also a problem.

          Error executing Ajax callback. Error executing Ajax callback function 'tt ': command: jr = if(js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.status),"Awaiting Approval","") if(js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.status),"Awaiting Approval",""): Argument is incorrect data type

            I figured you would. I wasn't really paying attention to all of the sample code just the fact you were not sending anything back to the browser. This code should work for you...

            Code:
            function tt as c (e as p)

            dim note as c

            if e._currentRowDataNew.status = "Awaiting Approval"
            	note = "alert('You submitted a value of: " + js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.invoiceNumber) + "');"
            end if

            tt = note

            end function

              Thanks so it was how I wrote the IF statement. :)

                Here is some sample JS code that you may find useful. It does the same thing but with out a server call back to produce an alert. You can see that depending upon 'Status' you can run a call back, run a action, or what ever you need.

                Code:
                var status = {dialog.object}.getValue('status');
                var invoice = {dialog.object}.getValue('invoiceNumber');

                if (status == 'Awaiting Approval'){
                	alert('You submitted a value of: '+invoice);
                }

                // sample code for more conditions
                // if (status == 'Awaiting Approval'){
                //	 //alert user
                //	 alert('You submitted a value of: '+invoice);
                // } else if (status == 'Declined'){
                //	 //run an action
                //	 {dialog.object}.runAction('DECLINED');
                // } else if (status == 'APPROVED'){
                //	 //run a xbasic callback
                //	 {dialog.object}.ajaxCallback('','','myCallbackName','','');
                // }

                  That is great thanks for the tip.

                  You would just run that in a inline-javascript Can you also place that in a Java function?

                  Thanks

                    Re: Need help with an If() in Javascript function and xbasic functions

                    The code above came from a button (in text mode). You can place it in in-line JS too. If you wanted that in a function then just add the function syntax...

                    Code:
                    function myFunction(){

                    // Inside here would be all of the above code.

                    }
