Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Phone Gap Build: Barcode Scanner No Longer Working

    Hi Guys,

    I have been using the Barcode Scanner plugin for around 2 years and I have had no issue with it, it has been perfect.

    However today when uploading a new project to Phonegap im getting errors when building the app into Android. If I deselect the plugin from the build options the APK is created as normal, however as soon as I select the plugin in the build on AA I get a build error in Phonegap.

    Im also building on the Windows platform and this has managed to be built successfully with the bar code scanner plugin however my usual function of using the scanner is not working at all?

    For Reference I am using:

    Alpha Build: Version 12.4.1, Build 3603.
    Phone Gap Build: 3.5.0

    Also here is the phonegap build log for Android with the plugin selected:

    Re: Phone Gap Build: Barcode Scanner No Longer Working

    There has been a lot of movement on the PGB side. Specifically... which barcode plugin are you using? What is the exact line of the plugin in your config.xml file... including the source.

    I'd guess the plugin has been deprecated. The version of Alpha you're using wouldn't reflect these changes. You'll probably be able to use the plugin now located on NPM. Go to PhoneGap Build for more information about the move to NPM.

      Re: Phone Gap Build: Barcode Scanner No Longer Working

      Hi David,

      Thanks for you reply.

      Looking at the XML that is generated the plugin is:

      <plugin name="phonegap-plugin-barcodescanner" source="npm" />

      Any ideas on how to get around this?

        Think I may have solved the issue. I edited the XML and used the following plugin for the Barcode Scanner:

        Will give this a try and see if it works.

          NPM Plugin is correct.

          In the Alpha PhoneGap Build Builder I'd ensure the Android Build Tool Preference is gradle... and I'd up the PhoneGap Version to the most current build.

            Re: Phone Gap Build: Barcode Scanner No Longer Working

            So its working on Android with the scanner coming up as normal.

            However on Windows nothing is happening at all when I press a button to launch the bar code scanner.

            For reference here is the code that is being used for the scanner to appear:

            function (result) {
            alert("We got a barcode\n" +
            "Result: " + result.text)
            //"Format: " + result.format + "\n" +
            //"Cancelled: " + result.cancelled)
            {dialog.Object}.setValue('QRCode', result.text);
            function (error) {
            alert("Scanning failed: " + error);

            {dialog.Object}.setValue('QRCode', result.text);
            Also here is the plugin which I am now using which is working on Android at least:
