Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

403 Forbidden opening a PDF version of an HTML report

    Alpha Anywhere v3.5
    Version 12.3, Build 2999
    MySql56

My WEB app was running fine with no errors. I designed 2 HTML reports against a MySQL database.

Now when I open the WEB app, I get a message:
    403 Forbidden
Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource.

I clear the message and everything runs OK until I try to view a PDF version of the reports. Then I get the same message.

I've run out of places to look but I'm sure I have missed a setting some where.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I moved the reports from the desktop control panel to the WEB Projects control panel. Now when selecting the PDF button from the report menu, the PDF works fine. But I still get the 403 error when first opening the WEB app. Yet eveything seems to work once I clear the error.

how about web security and check the security for the report and make it proper to fit the need. and publish.
( i don't think moving report from one control panel to another needed as far as i know.)
also not connected with the content of the thread, you are one of the few that mention what product they are using ( i belong to that group too) it will be easy on you to put this information

Re: 403 Forbidden opening a PDF version of an HTML report

WEB security is the issue but the reports are now running fine including the PDF option.
The entire app was working fine until I created the 2 reports. Now when I load the app, the 403 message
pops up. Once I clear the 403 message, everything works fine. The message doesn't reappear until
        I reload the first page.

I've looked at the security and I don't see anything wrong plus I didn't change anything but to add the 2 new reports.

By the way, gandhi, thanks for the tip on the signature. I didn't realize that feature was available.

on the web security select the reports and set them to something like always allowed, may be that will solve the issue.

This is the message. It doesn't tell me much.
              Am I missing something.

              Security.JPG

It's strange to me as everything works fine including the PDF's
              but for this message.

I did change the permissions and that didn't make any difference.

while i cannot be sure, when you change the security there is some time lag. then it works as expected. i will wait an hour and try again or shutdown the browser and open the website again.

This is usually a caching thing with the server. If you want to be sure of what you've just published, stop and restart the server... if it's a test server... or if you can stop a live server.

Re: 403 Forbidden opening a PDF version of an HTML report

So far I have published this code to the Localhost. I deleted all the files in the localhost folder and published them all again. The first UX component has no Server-side or Client-side coding. There is only one Xbasic function which runs from a button in a list. I have looked at the index.a5w page which runs a UX login component. I can't find anything with those plus the error message doesn't pop up until the main UX component is visible. I've looked for check boxes for cache setting and I wasn't able to find any checked.

It would sure be nice if the error message contained more detail.

If you're just using localhost at this point server cache isn't involved. You may be referring to very specific Server-side events, but if your component runs XBasic code then it's running Server-side code.

Is it possible that the folder your PDF reports are being created in is locked down?

While initially the PDF's wouldn't run giving me the same 403 error message, once I moved the report definitions to the WEB control panel, the PDF's run just fine. I'm guessing that there is something in the main UX component, maybe something left over, that is causing the problem. My next step is to start stripping out code to see if I can find the offending panel card.

I wish Alpha would give us some better tools to help trouble shoot security issues. Please, Please.

OK, I finally found the problem. First I made a copy of the UX for a backup if needed. Then I copied one panel card at a time to the clipboard starting with the panel cards I last worked on. If the error didn't go away, I put that panel card back. After a couple of tries, I found the offending panel card.

I then used the same procedure to elements within the panel card. As it turned out, the source of the error was an Embedded Object, Report Layout which while referencing a report that didn't exist, would display the report I was expecting to see. Go figure. Anyways, all is good. Thanks.
