What is the equivalent in Alpha of the MS Access Datasheet View? Before you jump and say Grid or UX, let me explain the situation.
I want to have a two column table that stores a Description and a SQL SELECT statement. I want to make an interface where the user can select a record and it will execute the SQL statement and simply show the results. In Access I would just create a temporary QueryDef object, then open it and it would appear as a query result in the standard datasheet view (that looks like Excel). The column headings and number of columns returned will vary from one SQL statement to another. I do not want to have to define the layout of each query.
The purpose of this feature is to handle occasional user requests for queries without having to invest time in developing a report or UI for each ad-hoc request. Often times these queries might exist to look for anomalies in the database and often return no data. I have a plan to build an interface like this in Access to help the on-site database administrator keep the data clean. I have a list of two dozen queries already on my to-do list. I am a long time Access developer and exploring the capabilities of Alpha. I'm trying to decide if Alpha can handle this or if this piece will have to be built in Access.
Alpha's Grid Excel export feature is close to what I want, but I don't want to rely on Excel.
I simply want a way to click a button and show the user a table/grid of data (not CSV). Is there a simple way to do this with Alpha? If yes, can the user sort, filter, and resize the columns? Is there also a way that the data is editable? A screenshot of what you can do would help explain what I might see as the result. See my sample below.
Thanks,
Ben
