Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Creating Certificate Signing Request Error

    The Google Maps alternate view for grids does not work any longer. The map shows up but without any markers on it.

    After reading several posts regarding Google maps no longer supporting insecure connections, the solution seems to be to run the server with SSL enabled with an SSL certificate. However when I click on Create Certificate Singing Request on the SSL tab in the Application Server Settings I get the error message:

    “The private key could not be created: Error opening output file while creating private key.”

    What to do? I need the CSR to send to GoDaddy to get the SSL certificate.

    I am using Alpha Five v 12.3 Build 2999, Application Server Build 2999-4519.

    Thanks for any help. Sorry I didn't get all of that in the original post.

    Not only do you need to run SSL but you need an API key from Google AND you need to enable your domain in your Google account.

    Although to be honest, I do not get what it is that you're really saying here. What is the error message?
    You may want to list what build your on as well, if it gets into discussing why image sequences and google map markers.

      It sounds like you are trying to create your CSR in a directory that you do not have write access to. Try a different folder.

        There doesn't seem to be a way to specify a directory.

          Alpha Anywhere attempts to create the private key file and the CSR file in the current working directory, which should be the directory of the currently open workspace.

          In the Interactive Window you can determine the current working directory with a5.Get_Path(). Once you know the folder, test to see if you can create a file in this location.

            From the interactive window of my current project I get:

            ? a5.Get_Path()
            = "C:\A5v12\BB4"

            I changed the sharing/security on that directory(C:\A5v12\BB4) to Everyone can Read/Write but I still get the same error.

            I am not sure exactly what you mean by "test to see if you can create a file in this location". I can create a txt file and save it there, yes.

              Thanks for the help Lenny.

              Is the Alpha Five server the only way to generate the CSR file? Or is there some other way to do it?

                Hi Lenny,

                You are right. I cannot write to my working directory, at least from the interactive window.

                How would I fix that?

                  OK. I found my mistake and the following code does work and does save a file to the working directory:

                  ? a5.Get_Path()
                  = "C:\A5v12\BB4"

                  xx2 = "abcdef"
                  save_to_file(xx2,"C:\A5v12\BB4\testfile.txt")

                  test.jpg

                  So why would the Alpha server not be able to save the CSR file there?
