Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Simple refresh of list control after record deletion fails

I have a list control on a UX that pulls from a SQL table and filters by an argument supplied by the current logged in username. I placed a button under the list to delete a record which you can press after selecting a record in the list. I use the Action Javascript Delete Record to delete the record and it works to remove the record but the list does not refresh after the Action Javascript runs. I have selected the list in the Action Javascript feature "List controls to refresh" but it does not work. I turned on debugging in the browser and if that option is selected it produces an Error 500 (Internal Server Error) at the point of the refresh. I know this because if I deselect the list to be refreshed, the error does not occur. I have tried leaving it deselected and added another Action Javascript after the delete to specifically refresh the data in the list (which I have used on MANY other UX controls in the past) but still the list does not refresh. I tried making sure that it was not a timing issue by turning on Run action syncronously but that did not help. I created a seperate button to only refresh the data in the list using an action javascript and it works if pressed after the delete button. I am stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to take that action button for the manual refresh that you have working, switch to text more and copy that code to run after the delete action (both being in text mode.

Re: Simple refresh of list control after record deletion fails

Thanks for the suggestion Charles. While it did not completely fix the issue it may have gotten me a little closer. It appears to be a timing issue (and a broken refresh option in the delete action). I did as you suggested and created a new button called Test Delete with just the javascript code (gotten from converting the delete and refresh buttons into text mode) and tested it. The problem still existed. I then turned off the confirmation option (by changing that parameter from true to false) and it worked to delete the record and refresh the list. While this is great, it concerns me that I do not have the confirmation prompt. I also found that turning off the confirmation prompt in the original button still using action javascript and turning on the built in refresh feature in the delete function did NOT work. This leads me to believe that the synchronization option does not really work and that the refresh action javascript runs concurrently with the delete action javascript and because the delete action stops for a confirmation, the additional attempts to refresh does not help. Also the built in refresh in the delete function is broken. Any suggestions on how to get my cake (confirmation before deletion) and eat it too (refresh the list)? Again, all help is appreciated.
