Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Copy UX record with a repeating section.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to copy a UX that also contained a repeating section to a new record.

I would like a button on a UX that when clicked will copy all the fields in the UX and fields in a repeating section to a new UX ready to be save.

Re: Copy UX record with a repeating section.

I know you will need to loop through the records in the repeating section and put them into an array but brother I am NOT that experienced! You might want to list the fields in the repeating section and perhaps a generous soul will show us all how to loop through the array and create an xbasic statement to INSERT the data into a table for you - but you might want to look at what COULD need to happen if someone wants to UPDATE instead of INSERT. I think that would require a bit more thought, on how you would identify the records in the repeating sections table as existing already VS an insert.
Is there ONLY 1 repeating section ? This is a seperate table from the rest of the info as well. right?

Like I said, list your fields (at least 3 or 4 for brevity) in the repeating section and maybe the variable name of the section. This will allow someone to write a for-loop that might be able to show you what to do.

See if this will help... written a while ago... but the code may be of use...

Re: Copy UX record with a repeating section.

          Thanks David,

That is exactly what I have been looking for.

          Much appreciated.

Re: Copy UX record with a repeating section.

Thanks to both, I am afraid it was too much for my brain to handle without the need to use it right now - BUT - I did put that in the back of my mind for future reference!

Re: Copy UX record with a repeating section.

as per your first post the duplicate ux should be ready to be saved, that is how most people do. commonly used in replicating purchase orders etc..
with all due respect to david, who is a fantastic contributor to this board, his method involves saving a record and does not give the user ability to edit the record such as adding deleting items in the repeating section before saving.
here is a simple example to show with few lines of code to do what you said in post #1

Re: Copy UX record with a repeating section.

Rather than trying to copy from the UX, you would be better off just copying the DATA into new database records using SQL insert statements, then reload the UX with the new key. You could write a stored procedure to do the copy in one statement if you are using SQL.

                  Hello GGandi,

I have just read your post. Thanks for posting, very simple yet very effective. This works very well for what I originally requested.
