Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New server, wrong date format

    I just moved an application from Server1 to a new Server2 for a client. Now on Server2 dates are displaying in the date controls in the wrong format.

    This problem does not occur in grid date controls.

    UX controls driven by a List show 07/24/2008 as 20/08/0724.

    UX controls that use data binding show 2008-07-24, and callbacks that try to work with the dates fail for incorrect data type errors.

    This problem is in all components.
    It's present in Chrome and IE browsers.
    Server Locale is correct.
    Server region and language is correct.
    Chrome location setting is correct.
    The User language for the SQL login used by the connection string is correct.

    I'm out of ideas for places to look - any thoughts?

    Bumping this up - really need this solved, and it seems that this shouldn't cost the price of a support incident.

      1. Are you sure the same version of Alpha Server was installed onto the new server as the old server?

      2. Are you using MS SQL and was it also changed between the two servers?

      If changed MS SQL servers then what happens if you run the following two queries on the two servers whiled signed into SQL with the same login that your web app uses?
      SELECT GETDATE()
      SELECT LEFT(GETDATE(),11)

      The results are expected to be different between the two commands, but are the results formatted differently between the servers? If they are different than check SQL's "SET DATEFORMAT" and "SET LANGUAGE".

        Re: New server, wrong date format

        I would hope SQL Server wouldn't be involved... Standard SQL Dates are universal as yyyy-mm-dd.

        Do you have a load balancer running?

            Rich-
            1. verified the installed version matches.
            2. Same MS SQL server as previous - just changed the web server location.

            David -
            1. Same SQL server as before, no load balancer

            Eric -
            See above.

            I had the application on the same server as the SQL server. I left the SQL server alone, added a virtual machine, and moved the A5 web server to the new virtual machine. Everything was fine until I moved it, so it has to be something on the new box, I think.

            The other change was that I used localhost for the SQL server before the move, and then established a remote user account to accommodate the move.

              You mentioned Server Locale and Region... but you didn't specifically mention Windows Server Date Format.

                possible, but it won't explain why the grids are okay and the problem is only in the ux, on controls driven by list. if you look at the resulting date, the date is correct the slashes are not (month, day & year designation - 07/24/2008 as 20/08/0724.) so why not the list feeding the ux as the problem. somehow the list is (or the controls are) interpreting the date string wrong. do not know much about the list or access to it, but if you don't mind take a look at that too.

                edit:
                you can, if you want, create a new ux with just one date control with current date as default and see if it comes out clean when you publish to the server.
                or an ux with one or two controls and populate the date control with a button call to the backend, either way.

                UX controls that use data binding show 2008-07-24, and callbacks that try to work with the dates fail for incorrect data type errors.
                here it seems to be the problem. i will look into how the callback is handling the data. the data at the backend is correct, and all the settings in all the parts should be correct to have that date.

                  Re: New server, wrong date format

                  I just put three date-type text boxes on a new UX, filled them as follows, and ran the page on the new server installation:

                  1. default value =date()

                  2. onDialogInitialize set with e.Control.TestDate2 = dtoc(date())

                  3. onDialogInitialize -get date value from SQL query, then fill with e.Control.TestDate3 = rs.data(1)

                  1 and 2 are fine. 3 displays as 2013-01-11

                  All the above is when I run the page in the new server instance.

                  So, in the IDE, I tried the same thing, with #3 pointing to the same SQL server and using the same database, and got the correct result. This tends to lead me to think it's not something in the SQL connection/source, but local to the new server.

                    i am not able to duplicate any problem with date formats on List controls.

                    If you think there is a problem, then please submit a test case. You can use the Orders table in Northwind - it has several data/time fields.

                    thanks

                      Re: New server, wrong date format

                      On further reflection, since you say it is working ok on one machine, but not another, that would suggest that the sql server native drivers on not installed on the machine that is not working.

                      here is the excerpt from the release notes that discusses this

                      SQL Server - Date or Date/Time Fields - Errors - Installing correct Native Client - Occasionally we received a bug report from a user reporting that they are getting an error while doing some type of SQL query involving a SQl Server date or datetime field. Invariably, the error is caused because they do not have the correct drivers for the SQL server Native Client installed.
