Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to automatically center UX windows when user resizes the browser window?

    1) when calling an UX from an ajax callback, using "center" option ( centers in the current viewport ) never works for me correctly ( i think it needs to calculate the whole ux which it doesnt ).
    2) either way, i'd like to re-center the ux in current viewport when a user resizes the browser window, is there some way to do that? css maybe?

    Thanks

It probably is centering, however you'll need to look at how that is determined, and maybe even "when". My first thought would be to start off by specifically setting it to some know point from the upper left with so many pixels in each direction. This could be beneficial if your hoping to use this application as a hybrid - ipad - desktop - small device. I would do this until you can do some testing to determine what is center and how can you get it to act the way you want it to in all the expected viewports. You can test using chromes dev tools as they will allow you to select devices. The "mobile" option seems to work fine most of the time btw - BUT - I think you will find that when developing for a hybrid application you should design with the smallest screen size in mind OR build a smaller more friendly UX for devices such as an iphone. Once you get a handle on what some good sizes are (write them down) then you can work on ways to switch out or layout according to device size. My guess is that you probably want it to just be "responsive" and would rather build a single UX that is completely responsive to screen size. The only way I have found to do that without a LOT of knowledge on the subject of responsive design (that's me for sure) is to design for the smallest screen size and where applicable let the user decide. For instance, when. Technician logs into my application they are given a choice of two buttons - one is for iPads and the other is for smaller screen devices. I struggled for the longest time and finally decided that guys using ipads had much more visual capabilities and would use alot more of the functions available whereas people with small devices didn't want alot of options and usually did not want to spend much of their DATA that they pay for to be wasted, they just wanted to log in do their report and get out. Ipad users wanted to look at history of jobs, multiple maps and since they have 6 times the screen size it's easy to work with sub menus etc.
I know I went into more depth than you were probably looking for - I hope it helps.

Thanks Charles, you described exactly my struggles with this UX.
In the end, it will be a desktop UX, and in fact it's run from a grid which is run in a tabbedui menu. I think there should be a css directive to would center my UX depending on the main a5w page, but i don't know what it is...
