Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web Reference Null

    I am building a app using a web reference. This particular app is currently configured for the desktop. I have modified working existing c# code. All of the methods work correctly except the ones that need to pass a null value into.

    An example c# call: jt.SetOutputInfo(xmp_user, xmp_pass, jtid, "PDFO", 1, null, null, null);
    is replaced by jt.SetOutputInfo(xmp_user, xmp_pass, jtid, "PDFO", 1, null, null, null)
    (I have a variable null dimmed as c set to null_value().)

    This is not working. I have also attempted "", to no avail. This symptom is consistent with all methods that require null values to be passed.

    I have been working on this all day and am at the end of my wits... anyone have any help?

    Re: Web Reference Null

    Perhaps a bit more info, the variable I am trying to pass a null into is a value pairs type variable. The null works in c#- can anyone provide an insight as to how to set this variable in AA?

    This is the info on the method:

    public bool SetOutputInfo(
    string inTicketID,
    string inType,
    int inMedia,
    string inFolder,
    string inFileName,
    Parameter[] inParams
    )

    Here is a c# example:

    jobTicketWS.SetOutputInfo(uName,
    password,
    jobTicketID,
    "PDFO",
    1, "", "",
    null);

    Here is a VB example:
    jobTicketWS.SetOutputInfo(uName, password, jobTicketID, "PDFO", 1, "", "", Nothing)

    BTW, the only reason this is in the Mobile and Browser app section is because it uses a web reference and it will ultimately be deployed as a browser based app.

      A character variable set to a null value is not the same as a null. Pass null_value() directly, such as:

      jt.SetOutputInfo(xmp_user, xmp_pass, jtid, "PDFO", 1, null_value(), null_value(), null_value())

        Re: Web Reference Null

        Thanks Lenny. I had already tried that and just tried it again with the same result; still not working. Here is the error I get: (for this one I have the two character fields set to "", which is working in other methods, but I get the same error regardless)

        Capture.JPG

        When I try to create what I think matches a value pair variable:

        dim inParams as p
        dim inParams.m_Name as c = "ASSET_POLICY"
        dim inParams.m_Value as n = 2

        and then pass inParams I get this error:

        Capture 2.JPG

          Re: Web Reference Null

          The first error is saying there is because there is no method prototype that takes the number and type of arguments you have supplied.

          The second error is indicating that an Xbasic P cannot be implicitly converted to a .Net class of the expected type. You will need to dim a Parameter[], then pass that. This should work with it null, or with it containing actual values.

            Are you suggesting that I dim the Parameter[] in AA? If so, how? Otherwise, can you please be a bit more specific?

              Re: Web Reference Null

              That is exactly what I am suggesting. But I can't be more specific because You have not provided the details of the exact class you are trying to use. But to point you in the general direction, here is how you would do it with a .Net NameValueCollection

              dim Collection as System::Collections::Specialized::NameValueCollection
              Collection.Add("Name", "Value")

                I think we are getting close... this is the code for the method:

                [System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapDocumentMethodAttribute("XMPieWSAPI/SetOutputInfo", RequestNamespace="XMPieWSAPI", ResponseNamespace="XMPieWSAPI", Use=System.Web.Services.Description.SoapBindingUse.Literal, ParameterStyle=System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped)]
                public bool SetOutputInfo(string inUsername, string inPassword, string inTicketID, string inType, int inMedia, string inFolder, string inFileName, [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlArrayItemAttribute(IsNullable=false)] Parameter[] inParams) {
                object[] results = this.Invoke("SetOutputInfo", new object[] {
                inUsername,
                inPassword,
                inTicketID,
                inType,
                inMedia,
                inFolder,
                inFileName,
                inParams});
                return ((bool)(results[0]));
                }

                  This is what I get with the Collections namespace:

                    I used System::Collections::Specialized::NameValueCollection as a general example and was not suggesting it would work for you. You need to instantiate the correct class for the object you are working with. Your post #8 indicates that what you need is a System.Xml.Serialization.XmlArrayItemAttribute. You can create one with

                    dim inParams as System::Xml::Serialization::XmlArrayItemAttribute(.f.)

                      That results in an a5 error:
