Before I jump through all kinds of hoops to make this work I am wondering if I am missing something simple to make it possible for the user to select the text that is in a list control so they can copy and paste it (i.e. say you have a column with a user's full name, I want to make it so the user can highlight the text in one of the rows for this column and then copy and paste it).
When I am in working preview I can at least select/highlight the text by clicking and dragging over it (something I can't actually do when using the application live) but when I try to copy it using ctrl+c it doesn't do anything (and I'm not able to right click to copy). I've messed around with the template (its a column formatted list so the template of that individual control in the list) and have had no luck other than passing the inner text to a javascript function on a mouse up event. Now I know there are was to copy text to the clipboard using javascript but I also know this is frowned upon as there really isn't a way to let the user know this is happening until after its happened, especially since the text isn't getting highlighted in the normal fashion with clicking and dragging (or if you warn them before then the user experience is quite diminished since they'll constantly be asked if they want to copy the text).
Hopefully my long hours at the helm is just causing me to miss a basic solution to this problem, currently my back up plan is likely a css-icon button that sits next to the data in the list so the user can click it to pop up a text box with the value in it already highlighted so they can do a quick ctrl+c to copy it. This isn't a terrible solution but as you can imagine if I wanted to make it so multiple columns in the list have this functionality there would be a lot of extra css-icon buttons in the list creating a messy looking interface.
