Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Login with Alternative Login Provider

I have setup named resources and have tested it and it successfully logs in using the tester on the named resource provider. However, when i add a button wired to the action javascript "Login with alternative login provider" nothing happens. I would expect a window to pop up, in my case the facebook login. But no window pops up, no errors or anything. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Login with Alternative Login Provider

Some providers require specifc features to the set in the provider developer site. Be sure to review the documentation HERE and read the section on Facebook as it requires special settings.

The alternative login will also not work in Live Preview as security is turned off in Live Preview. If you are using a browser that has developer tools such as Chrome (F12) or Firefox (using Firebug), you can see what happens when you click the button. In some cases, the provider will return an error that can't be trapped by the system

Thanks for the info, I have checked and it does work when setting up the named resource provider. It just does not work when trying to call it from an action javascript. Here is a link to a screenshot video showing what happens https://rovantexas.box.com/s/979hdlw...gpaf20hy7ejvew

The code is making a request to the authentication page, but that is not returning the next action. This can occur for multiple reasons. The best place to start is to turn on the server xbasic error log (which should always be on), and retest. Most issues will place an error in the log with details about the problem

I checked the xbasic error logs and it indicates that the security is not enabled, however that is not the case. Below is the error I am receiving in the log.

The error indicates you are running this on IIS. External Authentication is not currently supported in IIS. It is currently only available on the Alpha Server system.

It is on the development list, but there is no timetable for its availability at this time

This is an excellent example of something that happens a lot in the Alpha Forums. Rarely does a poster start with... "This is my Alpha/Build Version, This is my Server Configuration, This is my iOS / Android version I'm targeting, this is the Windows Version I'm working under, this is the SQL database I'm working with..."

It took six posts for this thread... it should have taken 2.

Just a bit of information up front will help... a lot.

Seems like the Signature would be a good place to put this info. I see some users have a signature field but I cannot find it in my profile settings. Where do you define this?

And of course as soon as I post the question, I find the answer. It's in Settings not My Profile.

                    Hello folks,

I am using the Alpha Server (latest version) and am using PhoneGap to publish a mobile app (not disconnected). I am trying to get Facebook login to work. It DOES WORK on the web version of the application, no problem. IT DOES NOT WORK on the mobile version of the application. Pushing the button does absolutely nothing, and I know for sure security is fully functional. I posted in the thread because the behavior is the same - pushing does nothing. I have oauth checked in the PhoneGap plugins (tried without as well - no difference). Also, pushing the button to "Add Facebook to existing user" has the same behavior - nothing. It's almost like any attempt to go outside my application is silently failing....is there some setting I'm missing?
