Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    What Is The XBasic Method To Display Original Value In HTML?

    I'm trying to grab the changed value from a UX component control when a user makes an edit and then output the result in the Server-Side action Send Email in the HTML message body.

    I know the original value is contained in the e.OldDataSubmitted pointer but I'm having trouble using it in the email HTML.

    I have tried this
    Code:
    if rtc.flagRecordWasSaved then
    		OldRepair = e.OldDataSubmitted.REPAIR
    		ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_Email")
    	end if
    where REPAIR is the name of the control. I'm trying to set OldRepair equal to the original value that was in REPAIR then output the placeholder {OldRepair} in the html. But this doesn't work.

    Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

    edit: corrected:
    may be you can construct the email yourself than using the built in?
    (once submitted i think old values go away, you can use unbound controls, but you may have many controls then it becomes difficult)

      Hmm, I'm not sure why I would want to construct the email manually, seems like a lot of extra work and the email part is working fine.

      I moved the code before the data submit action but it still won't work.
      I don't know why I can't get the e.OldDataSubmitted into a variable so I can actually use it in the email.

      Code:
      function afterDialogValidate as v (e as p)

      dim OldRepair as c

      'To edit this action, place insertion point anywhere in the command, then click the 'Action Scripting' button'.
           e.dataSubmitted.EditUser = a5ws_GetCurrentUser()
           e.dataSubmitted.EditDate = now()
           [COLOR="#800000"]OldRepair = e.OldDataSubmitted.REPAIR[/COLOR]
           e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "EditUser" + crlf() + "EditDate" + crlf() + "OldRepair"

           ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::Save Data")

      	if rtc.flagRecordWasSaved then
      		ExecuteServerSideAction("Send E-mail Message::Send_Email")
      	end if

        e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "EditUser" + crlf() + "EditDate" + crlf() + "OldRepair"
        this part was not in the first post, it shows you actually have a control in your ux/dialog "OldRepair".
        my feeling is the e.oldDataSubmitted.REPAIR gets fulfilled at the server and the server does not contact the dialog to change the OldRepair field.

        is that not possible to have the value set to the OldRepair via onChange event of the Repair control so the data is available for the email using {OldRepair}?

          Sorry Ghandi, I intentionally left out some of the code originally to try and simplify things, but perhaps that was more confusing than helpful.

          Yes, I think you are right about the oldData value not making it back from the server.

          I can't just use the onChange event on the control, because then the OldRepair field gets populated with the new changed value not the old original value.
          However, your idea has made my rethink my approach to figure out a way to tackle this. I'll have to think about how to get the old value 'before' the control data changes, perhaps the OnFocus event.

          Thanks,
          Stephen

            {dialog.object}.originalValues[0]['YOUR CONTROL NAME']
            should give you the old, original value before submitting the data, i think it gets overwritten when you submit.
            i also think it does not have to be in any event. if i have time today i will check that out for you.

              Re: What Is The XBasic Method To Display Original Value In HTML?

              You need to set the OldRepair value with the value of Repair when the data is loaded, then do not change the value of oldRepair for any reason after that. (Except maybe a data reload or a new record.)

              That should do the trick, no?

                Re: What Is The XBasic Method To Display Original Value In HTML?

                So this works in the onFocus event of the control:

                Code:
                {dialog.object}.setValueFrom('OLDREPAIR','REPAIR');
                It just doesn't distinguish whether the original value actually changed or not.

                  i just checked
                  {dialog.object}.originalValues[0]['YOUR CONTROL NAME']
                  it works well. try it.

                    edit: use the same code for onChange event of the repair control. then you don;t need a button.

                      Perfect, that works great!

                      Is there any documentation on {dialog.object}.originalValues[0]['YOUR CONTROL NAME'] ? I can't find this and it doesn't come up in auto-complete?
                      In particular, I'd like to know what the [0] parameter does. I suspect this sets original value only the first time the event triggers?

                      Anyway, thanks Ghandi, much appreciated.
