Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    using half stars in the view box rating system

    A client has requested the ability to rate their projects in half star increments, not just full stars (i.e. give 3 and a half stars out of 5).
    The "whole star" rating works fine "out of the box" for the view box, but I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to all the user to rate in half star increments.
    Here is the code in the view box for whole stars:
    <div>
    <div class="star {*if [temp].value >=1}selected{*endif} " style="display:inline-block;" a5-item="starclick" a5-value=1>
    <svg width="30" height="30" viewBox="0 0 15 15" ><path d="M 3,14 L 4.5,9 L 1,6 L 5.5,5.5 L 7.5,1 L 9.5,5.5 L 14,6 L 10.5,9.5 L 12,14 L 7.5,11 L 3,14 z" /></svg>
    </div>
    <div class="star {*if [temp].value >=2}selected{*endif}" style="display:inline-block;" a5-item="starclick" a5-value=2>
    <svg width="30" height="30" viewBox="0 0 15 15"><path d="M 3,14 L 4.5,9 L 1,6 L 5.5,5.5 L 7.5,1 L 9.5,5.5 L 14,6 L 10.5,9.5 L 12,14 L 7.5,11 L 3,14 z" /></svg>
    </div>
    <div class="star {*if [temp].value >=3}selected{*endif}" style="display:inline-block;" a5-item="starclick" a5-value=3>
    <svg width="30" height="30" viewBox="0 0 15 15" ><path d="M 3,14 L 4.5,9 L 1,6 L 5.5,5.5 L 7.5,1 L 9.5,5.5 L 14,6 L 10.5,9.5 L 12,14 L 7.5,11 L 3,14 z" /></svg>
    </div>
    <div class="star {*if [temp].value >=4}selected{*endif}" style="display:inline-block;" a5-item="starclick" a5-value=4>
    <svg width="30" height="30" viewBox="0 0 15 15" ><path d="M 3,14 L 4.5,9 L 1,6 L 5.5,5.5 L 7.5,1 L 9.5,5.5 L 14,6 L 10.5,9.5 L 12,14 L 7.5,11 L 3,14 z" /></svg>
    </div>
    <div class="star {*if [temp].value >=5}selected{*endif}" style="display:inline-block;" a5-item="starclick" a5-value=5>
    <svg width="30" height="30" viewBox="0 0 15 15" ><path d="M 3,14 L 4.5,9 L 1,6 L 5.5,5.5 L 7.5,1 L 9.5,5.5 L 14,6 L 10.5,9.5 L 12,14 L 7.5,11 L 3,14 z" /></svg>
    </div>
    </div>
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: using half stars in the view box rating system

    Search in google for "html code for a half star".

    I found this which might help:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...-star-with-css

    Either that, our you might find it easier to use images instead. Create a * image and a half * image, then show the images inline as needed instead of the characters.

    Alternately, create 10 images, one is a half star, then a full star, then 1.5 stars etc. Show the appropriate image for the rating. You could build the images and build a table to select them in just a few minutes. Bonus is there would be only one image, and you could create them all exactly the same size so they would be uniform no matter what the rest of the screen was doing.

      Re: using half stars in the view box rating system

      Thanks to some brilliance from Eavan and Selwyn, here's a UX with 4 viewboxes examples.

      I first created a viewbox and managed to shade the default viewbox template star using css. But got rid of that in favor of the examples attached which uses the Alpha CSS style... which includes a half star svgIcon.

      Viewbox stars uses a viewbox data value named starValue
      Viewbox stars1 is the same as stars but does not use starValue
      Both these viewboxes have some really interesting features:

      In the layout a function named A5.u.icon.html is used to translate an svgIcon into HTML code. Very cool.
      In the starClick Item onClick code, co-ordinates are used to detect which half of the star you're clicking on. Once again... very cool.

      Viewbox stars2 is my copy of stars1. Instead of using co-ordinates, I track moving forward and backward through the stars in order to light them up or turn them off.

      Viewbox viewbox1 is the default Stars template for the viewbox.

      Very powerful stuff.

        Where does one get the Alpha CSS? I don't see it listed in my options anywhere.

          I think the Alpha Style was introduced in Build 3922. It is part of the official release.

            Re: using half stars in the view box rating system

            Thanks to the honorable Mr. Kates (hoping flattery will get me everywhere), I am this close to completing this project. I have the control data bound, and it does successfully save star values to the table, but am having a problem getting them to display existing values in the table.
            When I initially used the default stars, there was nothing in the Static JSON in the Data Source except a blank open and closed curly bracket
            {}
            David's example shows the following in the Static JSON:
            [
            {
            "starValue": 2.5
            }
            ]
            What am I missing in not being able to populate the star value based on the existing value in the table?

            Again, thanks.

              Re: using half stars in the view box rating system

              It's actually thanks to Eavan and Selwyn... for direction and to Eavan for actually building the ViewBox.

              The data value that is set... starValue... is only used in the first example... Stars. For Stars1 and Stars2, the static JSON can be set back to the default {}.

              The ViewBox control is like any other Data control. Doing this in a button...

              Code:
              {dialog.Object}.setValue('stars2',3.5,false);
              Will fill in 3.5 stars for the Stars2 Viewbox.

              But... then the effects of filling in the stars by clicking on them doesn't work any more. Have to look at that.
              Unsure about this... seems to be ok sometimes. Report back if you find something odd.

                  Thank you, Peter. I was hoping to find out what release (or pre-release) has the half stars as part of the genie. I do not believe it is in the current release - 3962 - 4772

                  Thanks,

                    I believe the Alpha Style and SVG Icons have been in since build 3922. The genie doesn't do half stars. But... you have all the code for several examples of half stars.

                      David,
                      The current pre-release actually does do half stars. I downloaded it this morning and it is pretty much the same as your component referenced above.
                      Thanks,
