Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Trying to move my web 10.5 version to alpha anywhere 12

    Boy is this taking far too much time. Obviously some of the functions in 10.5 are NO longer handled in 12 the same way. Call out the programmer!!!!

    Here is a litany of "some" of my problems as I am sure there are more.

    1.NO reports print from a button. worked perfectly in 10.5
    2.some nav menus don't work, format has run amoke
    3.changing the text in the example in inline pics is IMPOSSIBLE to find. Spent an hour searching how to do this in v12 but nada. I have attached a couple pics. I want the text to be arial, BLACK. in the "Click here to search.....". Not white or Times Roman

    So one problem at a time. As always, thanks for the help....you are the BEST.

    Canada!!! It's so hard to say what might be going on in your attached pics. UX? Grid? Version 12... but what build?

    Could you post a sample component with just that control and it's text? That way there will be something solid to look at and work with.

      Re: Trying to move my web 10.5 version to alpha anywhere 12

      Thanks for reply. I am using version 12.4.2 Build 3670. System Addins: 4684. I am not sure what you want me to send/attach. The app is pretty straight forward stuff, nothing too complex once we got 10.5 Web-version to work. The search is of a grid. I can not find where I can change the text format of the message aka "Click here to search Vendors".

      Bottomline, our 12 version is a mess & we will have to spend a lot of time & energy to get it working again. In hindsight, we should have remained with 10.5 as we do not need all the mobile & features needed to work on these devices.

      I did send a private EMail to you.

        You can put the style changes you want right in the message, for example wherever the blank is that you filled in "Click here to search Vendors", just put in
        <span style="font-family: arial;color: black;">Click here to search Vendors</span>

          So why not go back to 10.5? If there's no reason to move to 12 then stay where you are for that application. Anything new, use the current stuff. Having trouble with font color will probably be one of the smallest issues you'll have to deal with. Is it worth it?

            10.5 to 12 is a bit of a jump. You might have been better moving to 11 first.

            Having said that, at the very least you need to replace all of your CSS files with the newer CSS files in Version 12.

            You should find/take a CSS class. (Pat offers one and it is well worth the price!)

              Too late, the $'s are spent & the jump has been made already. Our app on desktop v12, working 100%. The web-part we are still working on. Next problem, none of the reports work in v12 anymore in the web version. There are 1/2 dozen other problems that we are working on. We only have 2 clients using the web-part and economically not feasible to take a CSS class. BTW, thanks Pat, your suggestion worked. The Search text on the screen is now, how we wanted it.

                Thanks....did get it working as you suggested. Now onto another problem like getting all the reports to print in WEB-version.

                  Not sure how your calling the report itself but I bet simply re-creating the javascript action on the button click will work unless its some sort of layout issue in which case you should be able to open it in alpha re-save and rebuild the click action - again if that is how your calling the report. My experience has been different because I made incremental updates with many of the pre-releases and finally to the latest version but some of my printable reports were created long ago and work.

                    Reports is an area where Alpha changed the syntax. Here is the print report statement from my print module. It's in the help documentation.

                    a5w_report_saveAs(report_source_path,"pdf","","",report_file,global_variables(),pdfopts,report_args,opts)

                      Thanks for this....Here is one report that does not print after our upgrade to v12, the script below comes from "after validate"

                      dim filter as c
                      dim order as c
                      Filter = ""
                      Order = "Name"

                      Dim filename as c
                      filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "tempreport.pdf"
                      filename = report.saveas("Web Emp@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\employee.dbf","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)
                      if file.exists(filename)
                      currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
                      end if

                      does your script go in here somewhere?

                        The way session folders work has changed also.

                        However, I don't think what you are doing is even necessary.

                        You can change the button to print the report directly instead of having to run some xbasic.

                        The button itself can run the report and display it in a window, which is what it looks like you are trying to do.

                        Create a new button and check out the latest options available in the clicked event. Honestly, this code looks like it pre-dates even V10.5. What version did you START the app in?

                          Like Larry said, use a button. Your using the old v9 syntax. That's out the window now. In grid properties, Action Buttons create a new button and add it to the grid. It's easy to do once you know how (isn't everything?), but if you have never done it before you will be lost. See if you can find a video that shows how.
