Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dynamic Row Color on Grid based on field in table

    I have a grid that refreshes automatically. I have a field called status that I want the row to be a certain color based on the status.
    I can accomplish this using the "Conditional Style (server-side)" or the "Conditional Style (client-side)".

    However, this method requires me to set the color. I want the color set to a value determined by a user. I have added a field to the data called RowColor and I can store a value for the desired color as part of the process that creates/updates this data.
    So, when the grid refreshes, I want the row color set to the value in the field RowColor.

    Is this possible?

    I have a grid that does something similar, but I won't be able to give you the specifics until tomorrow. (Away from my computer.)

    If someone else doesn't answer, I'll post it here then.

      colors.zip
      The attached Zip file contains a grid and a MYSQL color table. The grid displays the colors in the color table and it displays them in their correct color.

      The important piece of code is in the onGridRender event:

      var ele='';

      for (var i=1;i<={grid.object}._rowsInGrid;i++) {

      ele=$gvs('{grid.componentname}.V.R' + i + '.COLOR_NUMBER');

      $ss('{grid.componentname}.V.R' + i + '.COLOR_NAME','color: '+ele+';');

      }

        So I have this working, sort of. This changes the color of the text in the column named COLOR_NAME.
        I want the background of the whole row to be the color.
        I changed 'color:' to 'background:' and it colors only the background for specified column and only where the text is, not the entire cell and certainly not the entire row.
        I need the entire row background to be the selected color, the same effect as when using the Conditional Style property.

          The row is

          {grid.componentname}.V.R' + i

          so I think you can just do this:

          $ss('{grid.componentname}.V.R' + i,'background: '+ele+';');

          That changes the background of the row instead of the column. (I think)

            I tried that. No error but no change in color at all. Tried again to make sure and same result.

              Re: Dynamic Row Color on Grid based on field in table

              In the colors grid you downloaded, replace the javascript with this:

              $ss('{grid.componentname}.TD.R' + i + '.COLOR_NAME','background: '+ele+';');
              $ss('{grid.componentname}.TD.R' + i + '.__SYSTEM_ROWSELECTCOLUMN','background: '+ele+';');

              That sets the background of the entire row, one column at a time. (Notice I am using TD instead of V)

              That seems to be the best you can do. But if you include the name of every column in the grid, it fills it out nicely. Don't know how many columns your grid has, but it should work.

                I want the color set to a value determined by a user.
                how many possible values you want to have?
                if it is not a lot of choices can you not make that many options in the conditional style?
                thanks for reading
