xBasic - need help searching an array

Hi
I have a array with 3 columns ( FromValue, ToValue, Result ).
Is there some find() option or the like that would, for a given x, find me the array row where x is between FromValue and ToValue ?

I don't know of a built-in function or method (there probably is... there are thousands), but you could just iterate over the array...

for i = 1 to ar.size()
	if ar[i].fromValue <= searchNbr then
		if ar[i].toValue >= searchNbr then
			foundNbr = ar[i].result			
		end if
	end if
next i

If there is a possibility of more than 1 hit, then build a result array as you're iterating.
If there is only 1 possibility, then exit the loop if found.

Thanks David that's what i ended up doing. Was scared of performance when not using an internal command. In this case the array wasn't big so no performance penalty in the ajax callback

One would need to be careful is using any digits in the from and to elements. Since the values as shown are character strings the comparison will begin from left to right and 10456789 will be before 2 causing the intended range search to fail.

The val() function can be employed to work around this.

But using all numerics... all is ok.

dim ar[4] as p
ar[1].fromValue = 1
ar[1].toValue = 4
ar[1].result = 44

ar[2].fromValue = 11
ar[2].toValue = 14
ar[2].result = 444
	
ar[3].fromValue = 111
ar[3].toValue = 444
ar[3].result = 12344
	
ar[4].fromValue = 1
ar[4].toValue = 4444
ar[4].result = 446

dim searchNbr as n = 333

foundNbr = ar.matching("between(var->searchNbr,fromValue,toValue)")

will return [3] and [4]

You can also create the value of the variable to an array of properties like this

myA = [{f:201,t:345},{f:106,t:999},{f:687,t:904},{f:817,t:841} ]

dim dist as N = 299

myR = myA.matching("between(var->dist,f,t)")
