Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filter Builder in WebProjects availability?

Our desktop (DBF-based) has about 100 reports & almost 100% prompt a user for additional criteria at runtime which gives a user the FILTER BUILDER. Very useful.

Moving to our webproject, we have setup a group of reports via UX on a a5w page but when we try to print a report (Eqp_AR) we get this error:

Report did not print. Error reported was:
Report Server: Layout name: Eq_AR@C:\Compu-Assist\Master V12\Application\machine.ddd Layout type: report Error: Report cannot prompt for additional criteria at run time. at line:
    527

From past experience (in v10.5 days), we created a complete set of WEB reports in the desktop with the Filter Builder removed. In v12, we tested one report with this filter removed and NO error in the web-version.

Is there anyway to get the Filter Builder to work in WebProjects or must we duplicate in desktop Control Panel 100% of our reports with "prompt for additional........" removed?

    thanks for the suggestions.

You don't specify how you're prompting users in your current reports, but I suspect whatever you're doing won't work on the web application.

Do your reports use Report / Select Records / Prompt for additional criteria at runtime ?

While it's work you hadn't anticipated, I'll suggest that you will need to build a UX to prompt the users for filter criteria, and then apply the filter criteria as you call the report from the UX.

The first few will take a bit of work to get just as you want, but this is very powerful, allows you to narrow the choices and complexity for the users and much more. Once you get two or three under your belt, the rest almost becomes just busy work.

Re: Filter Builder in WebProjects availability?

Yes our desktop reports (approx 100) all use "prompt for additional criteria at runtime". Thus a user has a FILTER BUILDER which they like & use a lot.

Due to the fact that each dbf has numerous fields to filter on, I can not see setting up each different field in a UX filter arrangement so we will need to be very selective. As an example in the Machine Asset Register common filters include: building, department, cost centre, GL code...and a few more. If I put all these into the web, the filter first & last selection for each report would be very long & not look very good.

Another task is to duplicate 100 reports in the desktop CP and remove the "....prompt for additional criteria......". Not good but it appears the filter builder can not work on the web due to how each handles data.....
