Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Google Calendar

I found this link in the announcements. It is two years old, but the link it references is gone.

    https://www.alphasoftware.com/alphaf...oogle+calendar

does Alpha have an API link with Google Calendar?

I have a customer who wants a calendar that works "Just like Google Calendar." So ...

If I can simply use a google calendar that would be ideal!

    Re: Google Calendar

I would recommend Jim's Calendar - of course I am not sure what you mean when you say "just works like Google Calendar" does that mean integrate with his phone? You can always simply insert an iframe with your customers calendar in it but I guess that would depend on what he wants to use it for and how much actual integration you want.

I had a customer who wanted to sync his events into his google calendar so I just showed his secretary how to export the ical file. whic worked fine for them.
Then I basically built an agenda (list) for the events that they can log into each day and see what on the "agenda" so that takes care of the what do I need to do today needs, and the secretary lays out the calendar events color coded to the emplyee - plus I made two choices of calendar colors for each employee so when the task is complete it goes to their default cal-color2
This makes it very easy to see right away what jobs for the day are done and what are not.
    I got a screenshot here: http://www.nwcopro.com/tasks-calendar-features.html
of what a calendar might look like to give you an idea - also you can see the default RED color for when an event was flagged for follow up by the technician.

I have done a LOT of modding to Jim's calendar and can say I am VERY happy with it.

      Re: Google Calendar

It looks great. Who is Jim :) and how can I contact him about the calendar?

What I mean by works like Google Calendar - the link I provide above seems to suggest that Alpha can integrate with Google calendar - I was looking for more info on that.

Also - how are you exporting to an ical file? If you have some code for that, I'd be interested in it!

        Re: Google Calendar

Search for Google Calendar API. Google Calendar can be embedded into your component and the API can be used to list, add, update events. Very powerful stuff. I created this simple display Google Calendar with a List of Events in about 30 minutes. It's not interactive as a simple example. Not sure what you're looking for. Google has walk-throughs and provides JS code. If you go this route and get stuck, post again.

I use Jim Coltz's calendar quite a bit and will be adding it to another project shortly.

Find more on it at the IADN store.

            Re: Google Calendar

Jim Coltz's calendar ALREADY has the ical-export built right in - you do not have to do anything except click the export to ical button, select the to and from dates and that's it! REALLY SIMPLE! Like I have said in many posts, it is an excellent product and fairly easy to modify - even the tough stuff, jim walked me through with simple and easy to follow tips.
Importing the ical file works in google calendar as well as on my iPad.
