Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

The database could not find the data you requested

Long running PhoneGap application. I'm making some relatively small enhancements. Current Alpha versions as of today.

After a few good transactions, I get 6 Alert messages and from then on the app, while screens still function, won't store data:

ALERT: The database could not find the data you requested

Shouldn't be difficult to fix ... once I find where it is generating the message.

What Data? What List? What Table? Pretty much any clues will be appreciated.

Suggestions as to where to look would be welcomed ... until then, I continue to try and find the culprit.

I would suggest creating a new screen with just one table and a couple of editable controls.

Go to that screen and make transactions until it breaks (or doesn't break)

then add functionality until you break it.

      Sounds reasonable.

I'm going to backup to the prior UX that is in production, and SLLLOOOOOWLY march forward with the changes.

Basically the same idea but the original is a rather large UX, so starting over is not fun.

I was hoping to drop in a DIV, check a box, and have Alpha spill its guts to me about what it was trying to find when it gagged and croaked.

That may be possible, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Even the old, unchanged UX is exhibiting the same error message!

It sure would be nice to have a field name, List name, or something as a clue.

I'd rather not revert to older AA version, but this is a show stopper.

I assume this is data that you are storing locally, as opposed to working directly with a sql database.

Perhaps you are running out of memory?

Re: The database could not find the data you requested

Right now it looks like I have a List with Detail and am updating the List from the Detail and there MAY be some un-initialized variables in the Detail.

If I comment out the "Submit Detail View Edits to List" action, I don't get the error.

There is about 60 fields, so determining which one(s) are not set is my next effort.

As for running out of memory, I get it in Working Preview and I have 64gig of RAM in my PC and terrabytes of SSDrives.

                Here is the solution.

Re: The database could not find the data you requested

Great idea. Unchecked the Write Conflict box. Sadly, I still having the issue. Build 4105 which is current as of today.
I get the ALERT 4 times in a row. From then on the code no longer stores any transaction.

I have 3 Lists aimed at the same data table.
1 is for new Inserts, the other two are for read-only inquiries as to historical transactions.
I get the problem even if I avoid the historical lists.

If the ALERT would add a little info, like what field or even what table is being searched, I could probably find it in minutes.

A solution is to back-rev to earlier version but that is NOT in keeping with the Alpha Adventure Spirit!
(So we have a new version? Cool! I wonder what is new and what acts broken?)

Fortunately the couple of hundred users aren't slamming into this. This is next Mobile App code.

Another goofy part is that it will let me do 2 Insertions before I get the 4-Alert beating.

i'm on 3922 in a live environment without issues and using the list submits like, you all good - I never move on a new official release until the dust settles.. I always try in a dev environment first for this very reason.

I'm in process of doing just that. I've had good luck going forward, but this time has cost me.

I'm improving my tactics for having multiple versions available to me at any given moment.

Thanks for the input, even when things go wrong they can be learning experiences.
