Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Emailing from Android -- Pulling my hair out Please help.

Hi, I'm building a mobile application(Android) and am having trouble getting it to send the emails. First off let me say that it works just fine when I run it in the working preview it sends the emails out without any problems. However when I install the phonegap .apk onto the phone and click the button to send email it shows the spinning icon for about 1 second then the icon goes away and there are no errors or messages. I then go check my email at 3 different accounts and no emails were sent.

Everything works in preview mode. I have checked my postback url and it is fine. Does anyone know if I'm missing anything on the publishing side or can give me some ideas as to what to check?

I was getting my data from SQL server and then looping thru the result set and sending the email but since I have not gotten it to send on the mobile app I changed this to passing in an array into server side then looping thru there and sending out emails and once again it works on preview mode but not on the phone?

I am completely baffled and losing my mind. Please help!

    Thanks In Advance,

Re: Emailing from Android -- Pulling my hair out Please help.

I figured it out so I decided to post it here to help others and for no one to have to waste their time on something I got working. Ok so in my xbasic code I am looping thru a sql table that has customer orders by vendor and each time the vendorid changes I have to create a new mail header, add the order details to it and then send it once the vendorid changes and keep on like that until eof. Well I had a function fo CreateHEader and AddOrderDetails. I removed them and put all that code inline and it is now working.

I'm sure some Alpha guru's on here know why this is so but I never would have thought that partitioning my code the way I had it would cause such an unexpected problem to occur.

    Thanks for reading this!,

You don't say, or post code, to show how you're sending emails from the server. No Alpha release/build info either... and which PhoneGap Build Version?

If you isolate your "SQL" version in a test UX, publish, and run from your server (not Live or Working Preview) via a browser... does it work?
      Is security involved at all?
How do you know your Ajax Callback URL is fine... have you run a test to make a callback and get back test data?
