Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Menu styling Ideas

    Hi,
I made a simple menu, tabbed ui with treeview.
    The customer did not like..:(
I am looking for some styling idea on how to display a menu of around 50 forms.

    Thank you for any ideas.

Your customer needs to supply you with an idea of what they do want. Playing the cat and mouse design game is a loss for both sides. Ask them for a sampling of other interfaces they've seen... anywhere... it doesn't matter as long as it gives you a concept of what they want. Otherwise it's a huge waste of time.

Thank you David for your reply.
I usually don't like to ask the customers about the look they really wants. otherwise they may ask for the moon :):)
      but maybe you are right.

I ended up doing a menu with frames instead of treeview.
This is What I have done :
      http://www.screencast.com/t/sDzKQbf1sp0
What I need to do is :
      http://www.screencast.com/t/PtGtagg7X

      The question is :
Can I add an icon next to the title of a frame?
Is it possible to change the background color of the title of the frame when it is opened?

Thank you again for any help.

So why don't you just use #2?

          Re: Menu styling Ideas

          Hi,
The #2 example is not an alpha application..
While searching for ideas I found this and trying to do the same in alpha.
I made something similar (I fixed the colors a bit).
But I trying to match the 2nd example.
          What is still missing:
          1-The animation
2-collapsing the frame when another frame is select
3-adding an icon to the left of the frame title.
4-changing the style of the label when the frame is opened..

          Thank you.

            Paul,
Sure. I did this quickly just to show you.
            frameicon.png

Just put the icon (or in this case a CSS font icon) in the button text property. This one comes from
            <i class="mi mi-Help " style="vertical-align: middle; border: medium none; color: #3366ff; font-size: 20px;"></i>&nbsp;CHARTS

If you want to use CSS Font icons, remember to add the library under the CSS (Font) Icons property under the tabbed UI Properties.

              Re: Menu styling Ideas

Your #2 looks just like an Alpha app built for mobile using a UX. I guess if you haven't gone down that road yet, it may be too much for your current situation.

                Ahhh,
                more questions

Someone else may have some fancy Javascript, but since you are using the modern frame, you can just check the Has Show/hide button checkbox, then open it and enter the icon for open and the icon for closed. Also set the initial state for hidden.

If you use an Accordian Tab Control instead of individual buttons you give up the show hide button, but then the tabPanes can automatically close when you select another one by setting the Accordian Style property to Single.

The Tab Pane has CSS Tab Selected and Tab Classname styles that control the tab color and other styling.

                  Thank you very much Pat,
                  you answered all the questions...
The exact functionality can be achieved with accordion tab.
Also adding the icon on text property.
                  That's all what I needed.
                  Thanks

                    Hi Peter,
I tried the menu in a list. It looks great even better than #2. I don't know if this is what you are talking about.
But I had couple of issues with it.
my menu consist of around 50 forms.
                    The issues I had :
I have to create around 50 action script to open each form from the menu
Then I wanted to mimic the tabbedui. Opening each ux in a dynamic panel. the dynamic panel did not work well for all forms (some of the ux have panels in them).
for a mobile app that consist of 5-10 forms having them all opened in a different panel at start then just switching the panel is good.
but for a browser application opening 50 panels with the ux in them at startup. I got afraid of doing it:(

and as usual I am late for the delivery of the project and in top it is in Arabic (right to left).
all topped with my lack of experience in alpha.
So I dropped the idea. and went for the more tested and solid tabbedui

                    Regards,
