Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha Time picker. Here is a useful feature I missed.

You have the ability to customise the time picker.

I have always wondered if UX is proper container for these kind of little things.

Your page loads about 4-6 seconds(first time).

You page have about 1600 lines on code

    And then javascript files :
    a5-39624772.js size 1,01 MB
    a5jQueryWithUI.js 328,54 KB
    style.js 340,25 KB
    And css
    style.css 11,82 KB

That is together about 1,69 MB and plus the 1600 lines of code

That is HUGE amount of data.

You can compare that for example full jQuery.min is about 85 KB that is 0,085 MB.

Your server really have to work hard in every UX request.

I believe Michael is just demonstrating this UX feature. I doubt he's going to put a 2 control UX into production.

I always wonder though, Kenneth, why you always take time to bash Alpha and continually regale us with file sizes and load times which are, in this case and others, out of context. If you're not happy with it's setup and performance... why lurk? Why use Alpha?

        David,

I know that Michael is demonstrating this UX feature. But it also shows the mature problem with UX. It has huge fingerprint.

I am not happy with UX current size therefore I do not use it. It is an Elephant. But I use Alpha.

Hope some day other developers (this is not for you David. I know you are happy with current UX deploy size) also will think why UX not in anyway optimize page code size and the huge javascript files. If your application have 100 UX componets there is quit a lot processing for the AA server.

Ok... thanks. With what can be accomplished with Alpha... incredible, unparalleled apps, both web and mobile for speed and breadth of development... I don't mind it being compared to an Elephant... one of the most intelligent, nurturing, powerful creatures on this planet... possessing an amazing memory and is unequaled on land. Pretty good description for Alpha... as a product... and for it's people.

Also remember the older people in the community had 192K RAM and twin floppies on their computers. We would never do things in this way.

Few people host on an Indonesian server in their front room.

The point is David's point; people who embrace the Alpha paradigm may be interested in the following feature. I missed it before today.

Sorry, this is not a discussion on bootstrap being bloated with div's or Alpha loading excess javascript.

FYI you can remove the excess Javascript and still run the page if that floats your boat.

Here is same done with jqwidgets. Just HTML and javascript so works with Alpha. 120 lines (Alpha UX 1600 lines) of code and 0,63 MB (Alpha UX 1,69 MB) javascript and css.

But that's entirely the point... that's all the 120 lines does... it shows 2 datetime controls. No one ever does this in an application. It doesn't talk to a back end database or local storage or other controls or have any other capability. It's pretty... but ineffectual. There are hundreds of jQuery and Javascript controls that will do the same... but looking at these controls by themselves is working in a vacuum.

David, the right question is why Alpha needs 1600 lines of code to show that very simple time imput plus 1,6 MB javascript.

Kenneth, the point you have missed is the UX is a super control, that provides a hosting functionality (to other components and controls) once loaded, here is an image example of the AA world I develop in with the UX as Host, I have been grid free for over 2 years.. I know where i'd rather be..

In fact that is my point. It does not scale. One control or 50 controls size is same. Huge load all the time for server. Makes no sense especially in mobile.
